Thanks Mr Alan.

I need to go to the Times Square building everyday, M-F, for four weeks so I want to select a place to stay nearby.

I've narrowed down my choices to Admiral Suites, Grand President, and Royal President.

The Grand President appears to be relatively close to Times Square, entertainment, and Foodlands (for breakfast).

Royal President on soi 13 (15?) appears to be the closest of the 3 to Times Square.

Admiral Suites is the furthest, but the newest and its location has less of a sleaze factor and probably quieter.

I've been quoted monthly rates of 26K nett at the Grand President for a Topaz Suite, 30k nett at the Royal President for a Superior studio, and 32k nett at the Admiral Suites for a Superior room.

Any recommendations?  Proximity to Times Square, skytrain,  good affordable food, and entertainment are the variables as well as room condition, price, and girl friendliness.

Decisions, decisions, decisions...

Mr Alan
Grand President does not look that close to me (I have a map of Bangkok that is actually drawn to scale). It has gotten mixed review lately depending on which room you happen to get.

You might try Rembrandt Serviced Apartments on Soi 18 or Centre Point on Soi 10.  The published rates may be higher than you want to pay, but check around with travel agencies or contact them directly. Actually, since Times Square is right near the Asok BTS stop, any place near the BTS should be OK.

Walking around during high season should not be that big of deal. I was there in August and it was quite warm and humid.

"the sleaze factor"? Grand President? Royal President? Where is that coming from?
I think that Admiral Suites better fits that category than the GP or RP. I have stayed at all of them and have seen families at GP and RP, but certainly not at Admiral.
Granted, GP and RP are guest friendly but it is not overt to the point that girls hang around the lobbies.
From my perspective, GP and RP are are "classier" establishments than Admiral Suites,

Thanks again Mr Alan.

I have yet to see a map of Bangkok drawn to scale on the internet.   Where did you get the map?

The GP is certainly close enough to Unity, and closer to Sukhumvit than the Royal President.  Hands down, I would choose the GP over the others, IF I got a decent room (which I always do).  I get the same rate for a larger single at the GP, and 29,000 at the Admiral (haven't seen the room), but the location of the Admiral is not ideal for me.

I agree with loquint: unless something AWFUL has happened, there isn't much sleaze factor at the GP, at least in the common areas.  It's a guest friendly decently maintained place, with a lot of longer-term residents and families.

And no 'drawn to scale' map will have the exact locations of hotels on it, so you can't go by that.  Mr. Alan is fooling himself...no substitute for being there and walking it every day.

Here's a tip: from the GP, cut through the Ambassador, walk down the car park/food court to the pedestrian overpass, and cross Suk. there.  Turn left and it's really a short walk (less crowded) to Times Square.  Too bad Soi 10 is gone, though

Mr Alan
I bought the Nancy Chandler map at a bookstore. In addition to the map, it has a booklet with good information about restaurants, shopping, etc. It has the exact location of most recommended hotels and restaurants marked right on the map, so there is no chance of "fooling myself."

In the winter (high season) I donít think walking from any of the places you mentioned is that big of deal. I would be more concerned about being at a comfortable hotel.

The Nancy Chandler map to scale?  Are you kidding or merely mentally ill?  It's hand-drawn, and NOT EVEN CLOSE to scale...

Do yourself a favor, Mr. Alan: go to Thailand, learn some f_cking thing, and post about THAT.  If you had ever even walked on Sukhumvit or soi 11,13,15, etc, you would have an idea of the relative distances involved, not to mention the available ways to cross Sukhumvit, which impact how far you have to walk...

Jeez.  The Nancy Chandler Map! That's a GOOD one, LOL!!

The other issue, at least for me, is what you are walking past each day - there is nary a friggin' thing on Soi 15, very narrow, no sidewalk, etc.  I turned down a cheap apartment at Star Suites because I didn't want to have to catch a moto every time I wanted to go change my shorts, and I couldn't stand the thought of the LONG boring walk there...

Soi 11 has food, girls and other necessities, in ever-changing abundance, and FEELS like a neighborhood...I can find someone to HELP me change my shorts there, if I feel the need...

Quality over quantity!

Damn I really have to agree with Mr haam sup again!

Mr. Alan,  unless you got digitally enhanced satelite photos, from like yesterday, you can never be secure in the knowledge provided by a tourist map.  Check the publication date for one.

Even overnight the situation can change.  And walking up those cross overs or to get on the BTS means a f_cking lot if you do it even 3 or 4  times a day.

And what the hell is comfortable?  Comfort is more than just the hotel. Its different things as you feel you need them.  In BKK for me at 3:00am, it might as simple as a 7/11 fives minutes away.  At 3:00pm maybe it's getting a fresh shirt back at the hotel.

Unless you see Nancy Chandler right on Sukh. with a satelite mobile directing her own personal U2 to take the latest spy pictures, give it up.

ps Stop saying 'winter', there ain't none.  There are four seasons in BKK...........

1.  Sweat like a river
2.  Sweat like a shower
3.  Sweat like a sprinkler
and my favourite season...
4.  Sweat
