Hi all,

I know there have been a lot of discussions about the mentioned serviced appartments (except that there is not a lot said about the Omni).

(Thanks to the many replies, I have edited this post already and added two more apartments: Centre and Admiral)

All seem to be very comparable:

- girfriendly (so I guess we do not need to discuss this, do we?)
- similar regarding access to Sukhumvit road (between 200-500 meters), except anybody disagrees?
- similar in price
- same rating range (3-stars, that at least is the theory, right?)

Here are the links to their websites:

Grand President
Ambassador: http://www.amtel.co.th/bkkroyal/index.html
Omni: http://www.the-ascott.com/OurResi/ResiGeneralInfo.asp?p=80&r=4&t=Other

Centre Point: Sukhumvit Rd * New Petchburi Rd * Langsuan Rd

Admiral Suites: http://www.admiralsuites.com

I got these quotes from them:

Grand President:
The Royal Suites (1-bedroom) at rate baht 2,300 net /night/room
plus ABF: 160 baht (whatever this is, does anybody know?)

Omni:
One Bedroom Suite (65sqm) THB. 2,000- per night
inculding VAT, breakfast (2pax) and utilities

Ambassador:
Type A (54 sqm.) Baht 1,500 1 bedroom
Type B (68 sqm.) Baht 1,800 1 bedroom
Type C (100 sqm.) Baht 3,000 2 bedrooms
Type D (105 sqm.) Baht 3,500 1 bedroom
including everything, except breakfast (add 250/person)

Centre Point:
Around 3200 Baht, but would not be available during my stay (at least the one on Sukhumvit)

Admiral Suites:
Executive Suite: 2600
Deluxe Studio: 2000

I am aware of the fact, that Admiral seems to be a bit more far down the road and quite a bit away from the action if you would like to walk, but if it is worth it (i.e. better than the rest), that would be accaptable

Now the questions to those, who have been at one or more of those apartments:

1) Would you confirm, that the quality/look of the rooms is what I expect looking at their pics on the site?
2) I read, that GP has 3 different "towers" and that not all of them are okay: That is "avoid tower 3".
3) What is it about this "upgrade" policy at GP. Seems it is not worth it? What kind of room did you book and what have you been offered?
4) One more thing about GP: It seems you guys talk about "Jade" rooms, which I cannot find on their site
5) Which hotel/apart-building looks best/cleanest inside (e.g. lobby, elevator, restaurant)
6) Which house is newest or has been refurbished lately?
7) Which offer would you consider best in general and why?
8) I think the Type D Amabassador offer sounds tempting as well. Anybody been there before?

Thanks for your help and opinion.

Hi,
I stayed at the Omni in Sept. It was my first trip to LOS so I wasn't aware of all of the other possibilities out there other than this place. I can tell you that the rooms do look exactly like the pics. Overall the quality/cleanliness of the rooms was good. 3 things did bother me though -

The hallways really stunk like mildew, but the weather is always hot and humid. The room didn't stink though.

The maid service was very unpredictable...some days they came by noon, others it was nearly4pm, which was incovenient when you wanted to bring someone back for a quickie

Lastly, the air conditioner does not have a temperature setting...it is either on or off...I found it to always be either too cold or too hot.

My overall opinion...I think I overpaid for the room and you can find better for the price. Plus, the walk to Sukhumvit takes about 5 minutes. Good luck

I have checked out all of the above, and I can still only recommend the Admiral suites on soi 22 as being a really good place to stay and excellent value

Skip those three and head to a Centre Point serviced apt. I stayed at the one on Petchburi 15 (across from Panthip Plaza). Apart from the convenience of proximity to Panthip Plaza, Sukhumwit is only a 50 Baht taxi ride away, the location is comfortably away from most of the chaos on Sukhumwit, and it is an awesome place.

- Obviously girl friendly (book a double)
- I paid $1,750/night.
- Pool, Fitness room (with trainer), breakfast buffet included.
- Mai service daily, and like clockwork.
- Excellent facilities, and staff.
- IN-ROOM HI-SPEED INTERNET (if you're into that sort of thing - I'm a geek, I am).

Couldn't recommed this highly enough.

Harry

ABF=American Breakfast, I stayed in the Ambassador serviced apts. for 3 nights after I missed my flight (what a shame!) rooms were very nice though it had sealed windows. Room service does not like to deliver, says it's too far of a walk. Will stay at the GP next trip just to see which is better for future reference.

Hzink - I have checked out the Centrepoint website and had looked at staying here before, but found their rates very high (188USD a night for a 2 bedroomed place). Is there a good website for booking them? I have found lots of websites that are good for hotels, but bugger all for serviced apts

Thanks

hzink,
when you are talking about high speed internet in the room. How is it working? Do you have to pay any extra or is it included in the room price and you just plug in your computer ?

Go to the agency on the fourth floor of the CP on Petchaburi 15, and negotiate the price. Like I said, I paid no more than 1700 Baht for the kichenette apt, and I was extremely pleased with what I had.

Internet access is included in the room price - there is an RJ-45 ethernet plug under the desk, you just plug in, and you are online (well, with a Mac, at least - not sure if you have to do the usual fiddling with the PC).

Speed is REAL high-speed (feels like a T1), not just some shared DSL, so it's really worth it.
