I am back from my trip, so my two cents for what it's worth.
Singapore is a great place and the women here are stunning. If you have money to burn, you will like it out here. If, however, you're heading to Bangkok as well, it is best save your money for the Land of Smiles.
Haven't made it to Geylang, but did frequent the Orchard Towers. I've been to a bar (don't remember the name) on the ground floor which I was told was full of Filipinos, as well as a bar called Ipanema further up. Also wanted to check out Top Ten (on the fourth floor, I believe), but by the time I arrived there, the place was closing (incidentally, the police arrived at that point, so I am not sure if it was because of the cops or it really was closing time, etc.). Drinks are prohibitively expensive at SGD$10 for a glass of beer.
[As a side note, alcohol in general is quite pricey in Singapore as it's very heavily taxed. It was quite a relief to travel to Cambodia where a big bottle of Angkor Beer rarely cost more than US$2.00-2.50 a bottle in bars and restaurants.]
What about the ladies? The quality of girls was average; there are some very pretty ones out there, but real stunners were few and far in between. If you like Asian girls and need some female company, however, this place won't disappoint. As most of the readers probably know, there are no bar fines at Orchard Towers' bars as all of the girls are freelancers. Girls generally quote a high price, so bargain hard - I could use this advice myself as I have definitely overpaid. Basically, I ended up doing a short-time with a Cambodian girl for SGD$200 - I negotiated this down from $250, but obviously, this is way too much. Guys - the range for short times is SGD$100-150 with $150 being the absolutely maximum. In my defense, we agreed on 2 pops so I got to bang her twice, but why spoil the market when you don't have to.
I stayed at Traders which is a 10 minute walk from Orchard Towers (the hotel is girl-friendly and also has a rear entrance which you can access until midnight if you want to be ultra-discreet). She wanted to get a cab to my hotel, but I insisted on a stroll. Throughout the short walk, she kept on complaining how she never had to walk that far and her shoes were about to break, and she's going to have to get a new pair tomorrow, etc. At the hotel room, she tried to get a long-time out of me. Waltzed into the bathroom and grabbed my comb which kind of irked me. To make a long story short, I remained nice but firm - got my two pops and paid her SGD$200 plus another $10 for taxi. That was my OT experience. Very much mediocre. Fellas - most of you probably know this, but with these girls, you've got to be firm. Smile a lot, be nice, but never cave in. Once you have agreed on the terms, price, etc. you have a deal and so you always stand your ground, and make sure that she honors her part of the agreement.
Beside the OT, there is the area called Geylang which is reportedly cheaper than OT and (as I was told) has lots of debutantes from mainland China and in retrospect, I should have it checked it out. If you're an expat, you're likely to be frequenting charming bars on Boat Quay or Clarke Quay where the so-called Sarong Party Girls look for white boyfriends (they aren't short-time prostitutes, but more like girls looking for a sugar daddy, so this is probably not for a casual short-time visitor).
The aforementioned is simply my (very limited) experience. I am not expert on local nightlife and your mileage can (and will) vary. I've only been to OT once and this is certainly not representative of anything.
That being said, if you're also doing Thailand (like I did), I think it best to save your money and wait until you get to Bangkok.
As a side note, the city has quite a few things to offer in terms of sightseeing. Do check out the Night Safari, Jurong Bird Park, and the city's cultural points of interest (Chinatown, Little India, etc.).

Singapore is a nice city - for 2-3 days. After that, it gets quite boring. If you like legalized, institutionized prostitution, then Geylang is the way to go, I guess. Other than that, it's just OT which is like a very mini-version of what you can get in BKK. Save your money, be a tourist for 2-3 days in Singapore, quickly hop on a plane and go to BKK. They don't call it LOS for no reason.

Besides Geylang and Orchard Towers, there are loads of freelancers. Most any decent bar will supply you with some fine women. Try the nice hotel bars, the bars and clubs at Chijmes, and places like Zouk.
I met up with a very fine girl from Jakarta at Brix on my last trip. Brix is in the basement of the Grand Hyatt, a few blocks from OT. All night for 200SD (she asked for 300SD) which is about $120 USD. DATY, evening and morning FJ -- she was quite nice and extremely beautiful.
I went into OT one night and immediately turned around and left. The quality was not good and the girls looked a bit dicey. Much better selection elsewhere.
I'll be back in Singapore very soon and will give Geylang a try. LOS follows shortly after Singapore, so I'll be saving most of my money for BKK!

latiitude, interesting observation. I have not been able to spot any FL's in hotel bars, though admittedly Ihave stayed only in a few and the same every time. Do you mean that in some hotel bars there are FL's or do you mean that the staff in the bar can provide you with a contact or a woman if you ask them

I walked over to OT last night about 10:30. I went into Ipanema and it was packed. There were lots of decent choices. And some of them were very aggressive. I ended up with a pair of cute Thai girls. They were not in the stunner class but rather your typical young looking cute Thai girl. They spoke decent English and were just nice to be with. They wanted 500 for both all night. I got them down to 400 for both all night.
They provided excellent service although everything was covered. They were not into lesbian type stuff, but rather worked me over together very nicely. I had no complaints.
They did want to be paid up front. We settled on half up front, the rest in the morning without any real argument. When I asked why, she told me of a friend that spent the night with a guy and in the morning he claimed he did not have any money and stiffed the girl. If guys are doing that, I can't blame them. I tend to believe these girls because they were really nice and delivered on everything as promised.

I've also heard of Brix - apparently, this is a FL hangout. Grand Hyatt is at the corner of Orchard Road and Scott Road; just a few minutes away from OT. I should have checked it out.
Singapore is also home to Zouk, billed by a veteran pundit as the best nightclub in Asia. It has a nightly capacity of 3,500 people. Also in the same complex is Velvet. I have not been to those places, but I am sure there are FLs there as well, although this could be pricey.
Singapore certainly has a superb nightlife for anyone who has the dough, but if you're a man of limited means (that will be me) and will be travelling to Thailand as well, paying for sex here is not practical from a financial standpoint.

The FLs were on their own in the bars -- the staff did not get involved. In fact, I found that the FLs avoided business talk when the staff was within earshot.

There is usually some in the Emerald Hill Bars, Brix in Hyatt is another famous hangout. They are less conspicuous than they are in Bangkok!
