Cannot help on AC. Have not been there since closing of Clark AB. Can tell you that it was great back then.
Enjoyed trip to Cebu this past year. Nice beaches and golf courses, but not the kind of BG scene as AC and Pattaya. Takes a little more effort, but beauties can be found. I prefer Cebu and the other southern islands to Manilla, but you must be cautious because of the Abusayef.

No worries, but please do not say one has to be cautious in Cebu and the islands south of Manila because of Abu Sayyaf.
These are the Visayas and Abu Sayyaf has no direct activity there. None is safe from possible bomb attacks of course, but this is the same for Manila...
Abu Sayyaf territory is some of the lower half of Mindanao, specially Zamboanga and the islands south of Mindanao in the Sulu sea.
I have no intention to start a political discussion in this topic, I just wanted to clarify the situation of the Visayas.

This past year we visited Cebu, Mactan, and Malapasqua. We had a wonderful time at each location and at no time did we feel threatened. Our Filipina hosts would have liked to take us to Bohol as well, but they decided against it because they feared for our safety. Bohol is one island SE of Cebu. They live there and I respect their judgement.
No political motive was intended. I was simply sharing my personal experience.
After a re-read of my first posting I can see that my language was not precise. In my mind Cebu is very safe. In fact my intention was to point it out as viable alternative to Manila. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused and thanks for pointing it out.

Too bad you could not visit Bohol, I hope you can do this some other time! It is one of the top destinations for diving in the Phils and the amazing Chocolate Hills are heaven as they look like large boobs.
I was working there for a year and I find it bizarre that somebody would consider it as dangerous.
