A newbie’s perspective
After 2 trips to Bangkok and 2 trips to Manila, I had to try Angeles, the so called “Pattaya of the Philippines”. We heard it was a 3 hour taxi ride from Manila, but on a Saturday it only took 1.5 hrs. The only traffic to speak of was getting out of and going into Manila. Only 15 minutes past the 2nd tollway, the taxi started weaving in and out of back alleys and side streets, apparently a shortcut to get back on the highway. Nope, we were here in Angeles. Boy what a dump it was! The main drag, Fields Ave, is little more than a long Soi barely wide enough for 2 cars, with small businesses interspersed between bars which are closed in the daytime. I immediately started wondering if this was a mistake.
Just like the misnomer of Nana “Plaza”, this place is more like Angeles Town. Shorts and rubber slippers are the norm. Mongers, beggars, and hawkers rule the daytime scene. The primary mode of transportation is the motortrike and jeepney. Auto taxis apparently aren’t allowed on Fields Ave. I could walk the length of Fields at a casual pace in about 15 minutes. True to form, the cable was out and as we were ordering lunch, the power went out. Ten minutes later, the generator fired up and the Swiss Chalet Restaurant was back in business. Cable service came back later that day. At least there is a large modern SM Mall about 15 minutes walk from Fields.
Surprisingly, the climate was quite mild, perhaps due to the super typhoon that came through here last week. It was always overcast and threatened to storm, but it only drizzled from time to time and rained hard only twice in 7 days. The humidity wasn’t nearly as bad as LOS (but still more than Hawaii).
GIRLS. Standard barfine is 1200 PHP. Dollhouse has some models (the ones with their pictures on the wall) for 3000. But how much do we tip the girls? Ask and ask all night, and we kept getting the canned answer “Up to you”, as if it were a secret they didn’t want to let out. I finally pushed the issue “I know up to me, but how much is expected?” Finally, a waitress said “Half, if you don’t like the girl, give her 600, if you like her, give her 1200.” Later in the trip, I asked one of the girls how much tip she’s been getting in the last 2 weeks. She said once she got 5000, 2500, 500, and once nothing. One of my friends asked on the Go2Phil forum and was told 200-300 is standard. Considering there are a lot of wealthy Korean and Japanese customers, a 5000 PHP tip is not uncommon. So I finally understood what the girls meant by “Up to you”. It depends on your income, how much you like the girl, how much cash you have left, etc. etc. My friends and I decided 1000-2000 would be our standard tip.
ST/LT doesn’t factor into the price. How long she stays is up to her, and strangely none of this, including price, is normally bargained for up front like in LOS. You have to bring it up. We had runners, and we had girls we couldn’t get rid of that wanted to stay all through the next day. Condoms are another item that is “Up to you” as rule. Some girls will insist on it, but I didn’t meet any and I had to enforce the rule.
CHERRYGIRLS. Ladyboys are virtually nonexistent on Fields, as they’re banned from the gogos. I think they’re on the back street with the videoke bars, which you don’t want to go down anyway. Instead, we had to deal with another strange, ah, feature - cherrygirls. I never met a single cherrygirl in Manila, but they are abundant in Angeles. They are doctor certified virgins and have a “V” in front of their number on their id tags. You can’t see it from afar, but any waitress or mamasan will gladly point out the cherrygirls if you ask. The deal is the normal working girls must get a weekly gyno checkup, but the cherrygirls only have to get a checkup once every 3 months, saving the bar money (this is part of what the barfine pays for). Once her cherry is popped, she goes on the weekly cycle. Cherrygirls, of course, are among the cutest, sweetest young things around, provide eye candy for the bars and often work as doorgirls to attract customers. They won’t have sex with you, but the one I bf’ed was willing to sleep with me naked. I wanted to take the night off and recoup some energy, and she was the softest cutest squeeze toy. That was the best sex I never had! But the reason I call the cherrygirls a “feature” is it occurred to me that if you’re a disgusting fat old man desperate for wife, what better place to look than in Angeles with all these doctor certified virgins on display. Overall though, the Angeles cherrygirls present another factor to be aware of when bf’ing a girl. There’s no intent to deceive, but it’s up to you to ask before barfining. If you make a mistake, you might be able to bring her back and “Girl changie” as I saw a Korean guy doing after making a fuss.
HOTELS. According to the girls, the best hotels in the area are ABC Hotel, Wild Orchid, and Pacific Breeze, in that order. They all have clean, fancy pools that you can lounge around. Considering price and location, Pacific Breeze is by far the best bang for the buck (about $70 per night for a Grand Jacuzzi Suite), and if you don’t mind not having a pool, Royal Amsterdam and Swiss Chalet should also be considered. Amsterdam takes a knock for the videoke noise, but their Jacuzzi suites are in the middle of the hotel so they don’t suffer the noise problem. For all practical purposes, the in-room Jacuzzis (at least at Pacific Breeze) are useless because they take too long to fill due to the low faucet flow rate, and they are not self heating.
Amenities in the Angeles hotels are scarce at best. A few mini wafers of soap and a couple rolls of toilet paper are all you can expect. Everything else is charged, so plan on a few trips to the minimart. At both Swiss Chalet and Pacific Breeze, the room keys are real metal keys (not keycards) welded to a large wooden keychain that won’t easily fit in your pocket. We finally wised up and realized that this is the hotels’ way to encourage you to check your keys at the front desk whenever you leave. That way you won’t loose your keys and they know when to make up your room.
A little on Manila/Makati
The Burgos Street area in Makati is slowing down, most likely due to the high prices. Barfine for the Flagship Flamingo bars (Flamingo, Wild Wild West, Mogambo, Bandidos) is now 2250 PHP. Getting a discount from buying ladies drinks is not automatic. You have to ask. Worse yet, the Billboard bars (a bunch of them) charges a 3500 PHP barfine (1/2 price before 7 pm). Ladies drinks are 350 PHP and a San Miguel Light was 110 PHP for us (less during happy hour). Unlike Angeles, expected tip is not “Up to you”. I got it straight from 2 independent sources: 2500 - 3000 ST, and 3000 - 4000 LT. Considering the barfine, that’s getting expensive. You can give less, but they will be disappointed.
The good news is that EDSA Complex is holding the 1000 PHP barfine, and expected tip is the same as Makati. The Manila girls are definitely prettier than the Angeles girls, but there are more girls (more bars) in Angeles (and of course, they're cheaper).
A girl told me that one day the authorities thought Flamingo had underage girls working there because they were so small. They rounded the girls up and took them all down to the station. Besides checking ids, they make the girls open their mouths to see if they have wisdom teeth. No wisdom teeth means they are underage. None of the girls got busted that night. The underage girls only work one day a week, like Saturdays or Sundays.
Oh yes, Angeles wasn’t a mistake. After I got over the initial culture shock, it was all fun!

Good description of AC, the place is a shit-hole. That said, there are some fun girls there and tons and tons of choice. Some stunners too. All speak English *this can be a plus or minus).
As far as the tip for the girl, the girls gets a good portion of the barfine. Most would expect 300-500 directly from the punter. Some guys pay nothing, some pay 500, some pay 1000, some pay 2000. Up to them. The girls will obviously be happier with more, and then you might never get rid of them! 555 Easier to stay with you for 1000 than go back the next day and get the 300-500 that most people pay.
Same same NEP, some guys pay 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000. People can pay what they want. Understanding the market rate helps you to know if you are overpaying or underpaying.
Painting with a broad brush: Fpinas are probably better in bed, but more trouble outside the bed (as in clingy). Most of them want to get the f*** out of the Philippines, while almost all Thai girls want to stay in Thailand.

i stayed 4 days in a /c last week on business. I went for a job interview, and wow yes it took, my breath away just looking at the fields ave.
i said what a dump, but after a couple of hours and a few beers in voodoo (i thought this was one of the better bars the girls very friendly and no hassles, )
this and the dollhouse the only 24/7 bars and the food in voodoo was ok also.
i visited a lot of the bars on the main drag, but I found the new irish bar just next to wild orchard.
(this is down blow job street the other smaller bars on the other side of the street all offered a b j )
yes it was a shock to the system seeing what a dump fields ave was the street hawkers offering you every thing from porno dvd,s to vigra/ callis, fake rolex,s etc etc
but I went to one of the chaps house, just a short drive away for a meal his wife was thai so lovely thai food, this was in a secure compound just a few minutes drive away and what a difference this certainly made me look at what I was getting into in a different light, after the nose bag we went to the clarkton and the mirrors bar.
what a nice little bar very friendly was made and felt very comfortable no problems and had a good time esp with the small baskets of table tennis balls you empty them on the stage or any where and see the girls all fighting for a share of the action.
the owner of the clarkton is a large german chap we were talking and it helped to brush up on my german as well.
so what I am trying to say I suppose I found other things to do and see in the few days I was there, yes I was looked after by my new company, went go carting etc. so yes there life out side the bars even at silly o clock in the am.
the new s m mall wow thats is big and a few lovely ladies in there, so all in all I cannott wait till I start my new job early next year.
i suppose the tourist type thingy is to do the bars etc but there is a lot of other things to do as well in a/c city.
well I found things to do but as I said yes I was looked after by my new company. but even if you do some research you will find things to do.
again a little like bkk some of the over 55 gentlemen with ladies young enough to be there grand daughters, not daughters but grand daughters, some people may callthese folk peodfiles, but if they are happy and most of them did have a smile on there faces then so be it.

the 'clingy' aspect was a problem with several girls on my trips, they would hang out in hotel lobby wanting money days after being dumped, a real nuisance, acted like we had been married, gossip goes around A.C. like wildfire, also hygiene is not up to TG standards. Would recommend a side trip to Baguio City w/a gf, pine trees, cool, fresh air, cheap
