Let me apologize in advance for posting a question here instead of a FR.

I have an urgent need for some information....and this would seem to be the best place to ask the question.I am hoping that the bros familiar with Shanghai will be able to confirm or deny the existence of this place.

Basically I am attempting to verify that this place does exist...I have an interest in verifying this that goes way beyond lookin for a beer. I have searched the web looking for any info about this place...even a passing reference to it in a forum or such. I have even tried to locate the telephone number of the place in the Shanghai yellow pages...all without any luck.

This bar called China Mike's is supposed to be the second largest bar in Shanghai...the largest bar is supposed to be an Irish bar across the street from it.I am told that most any taxi driver in the city knows where it is.

If you have any information about this bar please send me a PM straight away.

THX!

Cyborg

@cyborg,

I think that you are speaking about an Irish pub called "O´Malley´s Irish Pub Shanghai". It is located on 42 Tao Jiang Rd.

But whether there is any other across the road, soryy, but I don´t know.

Cyborg,
I don't know what is up or how familiar you are with Shanghai. I am responding more because of your PM the other day. If someone tells you that almost any Taxi driver will know a bar by an English name it is almost certainly BS. If you ask the average taxi driver in Shanghai to take you to the Hardrock and don't have the name and address in Chinese he will likely make it clear that you should get out of the cab. I have made better than 12 trips to Shanghai in the last 2 years and can tell you that without an address in Chinese I can't get anywhere. This comes under the category of "for what its worth"

You would have a lot of Problems getting to the Hard Rock in Shanghai even if you spoke Mandarin or the Shanghai dialect as there is currently no Hard Rock Cafe in Shanghai, hasn't been for nearly 2 years!

Went to the Hardrock in Shanghai last time personally in April 04 which I think is less than two years ago. Got the tee shirt! Same complex as the US commerical office. Haven't been back since then so it may have closed. But, that really wasn't the point of the message.

Just checked and you are right. Hardrock is closed and supposedly relocating. Sorry. Still, wasn't the point of the message.

And sometimes these guys can't read, too. It happened to me more than once that they tried to read the address upside down! I am always worried when I see some driver browsing for his glasses in a deep shelf of the car...

Hm, sorry, this comment is OT, but closer to a FR.

Overall, China (even Shanghai) is a pretty boring place – and “real” Chinese people are so…Chinese. My suggestion would be to only go to China to make big bucks in a short amount of time. If you do so, make sure you are close to an airport so you can escape to BKK, MNL or HK some weekends

While there are opportunities in Shanghai, you really have to work at it and the language barrier there is always a big problem. It also seems that inflation is hard at work in the P4P. Most working girls are starting to ask some crazy prices.

A good alternative is to take your Bangkok honey up to Shanghai with you. The flight doesn't cost all that much and it is very easy for a Thai girl to get a visa.

Hypershade,

China is not necessarly boring,

In GusngZhou check out the Elephant and Castle or the Mango Bar, just be careful not to trip over all of the English speaking FLs out front.

Cyborg,

Check with the hotel's concerge and have them write the address in Chinese for you, also make sure you have a cab card from the hotel for the return trip.

Moxnix,

Funny that I do not have to 'work at it' for my opportunities in Shanghai, and like GuangZhou there are plenty of English speaking ladies available, I think it depends on attitude...
