hi guys, been to shanghai 3 times and did not do anything great!!  and 3 times i been approached by the street equivalent to papasan who tried to introduce gal to me.. but did not take any because i have no idea if they are reilable or it might not be safe...
i used to stay in Yang-Tze-Jiang... well, appreciate if anybody has any sharing of experience....

Be very careful with those street papsan. Sometime they are undercover Police. They can arrest you if you mention anything wanting a girl.
Once they arrest you, they will hit you up with a huge amount of "fine". The amount is usually whatever you can afford to pay. Believe me, you will pay it because you want to get the hell out of their jail.
One time my friend got arrested there, and I had to go get him out. I'm telling you, it was like dealing with the maifa.
Go have fun in Macau or Thailand. That's my advice.

i been to bangkok for two times... and did not do anything... guess what .. i was staying in merchant court!! and i look around.... did not step into any mp, because i did not what might be going on....
after reading the forum here... i am now well prepared...

Same racket exists in Vietnam and (maybe by extension)in Laos. It's the cops. There are laws on the books against cohabitation, immorality, fraternization whatever between foreigners and local girls. The cops are out to make $$$. I am told, if you are tourist the fine is $500 US for you and same for the girl, if you don't pay hers she gets 6 months re-education. (That is in VN) But for long stay types the fines are MUCH higher.
This is supposed to be worse in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) than in Hanoi. Basically, your hotel won't let any local girl up to your room, and there are special houses where the two of you can go but, all foreigners are still basically under surveillance all the time, so, it's hard to arrange anything without a certain element of danger.
All in all VN is not a place to unzip in, unless it is to just whiz.
As to Cambodia I have not heard any such recently, although it is my considered belief that the Viets dump their infected prostitutes into Cambodia on a one way trip; HIV, and their delightfully incurable strains of syphilis (Saigon Rose) and LGV, how charming. The Viets of course still pull a lot of the strings in both Laos and Cambodia.
Paranoia? Well maybe. But remember what old Bill Rotsler used to say: "Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you."

If you can speak Chinese, there are nightclubs you can go. Otherwise, Shanghai is a bid difficult. You actually have better luck in Beijing as a non-Chinese speaker. Let me know if you want to know about Beijing.
As a rule of thumb, never go with any papasan or mama san you met on street!

That's good advice. I know many couples, expat guys and Chinese ladies, from Beijing and Shanghai and elsewhere, who come see us, the ladies are not prostitutes, these are long term relationships or as long term as such things ever are. The women are drop-dead gorgeous, one I am thinking of is a Chinese TV star. Expats living and working in China don't seem to have any hardship along these lines, and yes generally they have some Mandarin and other dialect Chinese language skills (a lot of effort involved I am sure).
As to the casual short term visitor to those cities I have little advice to add to the cuations posted above. I'd use a different p-word for those guys on the street offering play for pay introductions, but it could be Police just as easily as the one I'm thinking of.

i never been to beijing. but when to tianjin before. damn cold on feb. and i was staying very far from tianjin cities.. damn boring... but i bought a penthouse during trasiting in hk, and the penthouse was as boring.. .
do you or anybody know the luck in shenzhen? i been there many times... and same.. got a some 'papasan' approached me... but never took on anything..
anyway... i am not sure if shenzhen gal is hot... because while i was there... i have not spotted any nice looking babes on anywhere... maybe i was not lucky....

go to the Icered forum and chat a little. HK people go have fun in Shenzhen a lot. Shenzen has a lot of sauna and nightclubs with girls from all over China. But one thing about cities other than Beijig ad Shanghai is that you got to speak some Chinese to have some fun. However, you can go to Macau and enjoy the super quality regardless of what language you speak. Macau has a real market economy in terms of night life, just like BKK.
