There ae always bouncers at these places. You may not see them but they may be inthe back room, the dj's booth and hanging around outside within yelling distance from the bar entrance.

Like Kris said, there are always bouncers. They are just not as obvious, like the ones in the states. Also, the bouncers are not 6' 250lbs. More like 5'8" 130lbs. But, don't let their size fool you. I saw a guy make trouble and got his ass kicked by 6 thai guys, who came out of the wood works. Also, many off-duty police in plain cloths sit outside the bars because the owners pay them for protection.

Hello all -
In regards to taking a girlfriend to a go-go bar, the old adage springs to mind - "why take a sandwich to a banquet?"
I had a really nice GF the first few days I was in BKK- she did everything for me and toured me around some interesting places during the day. Night time was the problem - we'd go out to the bars and discos and I just went nuts looking at all the gorgeous women all around that I couldn't hustle because I was with her. I remember going to the disco in the Nana Hotel one night with her and another couple, and just being spellbound by all the action around me- damn, the babes I could have picked up that night!!
I finally solved this by telling her that because I was a first time tourist, I just had to go and see Pattaya. Of course she wanted to come with me, but I nixed that pretty quick. I had a great time in Pattaya, and upon my return to BKK found an even nicer GF for my last two nights there.
It's a hard decision sometimes - go for a nice GF for a few days here and there, or just go out and booze and whore to your heart's content. At least in the LOS you HAVE that choice - back here at home in the frozen north of Canada we're not so fortunate. There I was last Saturday night in the local bar, six guys getting drunk and hitting on the one average-looking girl at the table who thought she was something special. I got so fed up I went home to bed by 9:00PM. To think I have another year of this bullshit to put up with before I can return to Thailand...

Hi Jack Rabbit and Abe Snake -
Two good viewpoints - actually I agree with you and stand corrected, J/Rabbit - it really isn't fair to call them "whores", even if they technically are.
To be perfectly honest, I don't even like to think of them as "hookers" or "prostitutes" - the term I like is "hired girlfriend". Of the girls I enjoyed during my all-too-brief sojourn in the LOS, every one of them provided me with a genuine girlfriend experience. Some better than others, mind you, but I think that's normal, they're all inviduals, after all.
I've had North American hookers before, and they don't compare in any way to their Thai counterparts. Too much cash upfront, no kissing or even fingering sometimes, and out the door ASAP when done. Piss on that, I say - I'd rather go celibate here for a few months and really enjoy myself for a brief time in the LOS than put up with this bullshit.
Enjoy your "girlfriends" for me ... will return for longer time next year!!
