It was my ist trip to LOS in March. I went in Midnite, Bacaara and Suzie Wong. I couldn't tell who were the mamasans. I thought usually they would be older and would approach me when I got in the bars. I was never approached that way. There were girls greeters outside the bars. I thought I could tell the mamasans which girls I wanted to BF. But where are they?

ahh....seems that yr eyes and attention were focused on the TGs dancing on the stage!!!
easy to locate the mamasan..... just ask the waitress to bring one to u, shouldnt be too difficult i think!! just don forget to buy her a drink or give her a small tip for services and recommendations rendered...

Thanks, chrisboy. Yes, for sure I was paying close attention to the dancers. At Suzie Wong, I BF the waitress who served me the drink. She looked like a Chinese-Thai. But she said she was not, just Thai. She agreed to do LT but somehow changed her mind while we were having something to eat before going back to my hotel. Gave her 1200 baht after the deed. She was OK. Next time I will know to ask for a mamasan.

hey Wantoknow,
i usually try to connect with the mamasan, and i buy her an drink. they can be helpfull selecting a girl or telling you what a girl is like, if you dont want to ask the girl in person.
if you want to just sip a beer without company in a gogo , it is best to tell the mamasan.
most mamasans are fine, some are fun. but beware that there are high-pressure sales-bitches too (for example in cleopatra, patpong).

I do not agree with approaching the mamasan.
As a general rule it is far better to give them a wide berth.They will use an approach to get money out of you and i would not regard their suggestions with anything but suspicion.
I also aviod asking advice form papasans at MP's as they tend to give you a bum steer.
Trust your own instincts and work your deals directly with the girls.

I agree with Machine. I only trust the ones that I have known for some time. If I am new to a place, I tend not to put much trust into them -neither distrust either. Just take it with a pinch of salt.

I think a lot depends on the bar, which in turn means that generally the Patpong mamasans are not out to help you; Nana and Cowboy mamasans may be more human.
About 7 years ago, I was at a Patpong bar (I probably couldn't tell you which one even as I sat in it, and sure as hell cannot remember now). Anyway, I had one outrageously sexy gal on my right, and was clicking. Mamasan ran over to me with another girl, had her sit on my left. Mamasan proceeded to take the girl's bikini top off, telling me to test the goods before purchasing. Nice of her, I thought. Well, the girl had other thoughts and raised her hands at the last second as my hands went for the quarry. My arm accidentally struck one of her fingernails and broke it, causing some bleeding. Mamasan said, "ok, she cannot work anymore, cannot get customer tonight, you must pay barfine, she go home now." After 5 minutes of arguing over this, I threw enough baht on the table to pay for my drinks and made a run for it, with mamasan yelling at me, even out in the night market, that I owed a barfine for a girl I couldn't take home.
Haven't been to Patpong since, and haven't talked to a mamasan since. I use the girls to help me shop - usually let one of them pick me, then buy her a drink, act polite, and get her to ask the girl I want to come and sit with me. Usually works, and far less crap involved.

So are most you fellas of the opinion that mama/papa (except Marc, of course, or other mama/papa well-known to you) aren't really going to give you helpful info? Even if you buy them a drink & tip them, I don't know, maybe 300 Baht?
If the drink & Baht would get me good info, then it's well worth it.
If not, if their info is no better than the girls, or if they're just taking the $ while trying to pawn off a girl of relatively low demand with the fake assurance of great performance in your area of interest, then I'll be happy to save my $.
Think I've probably answered my own question, but since I've already typed it, I'll sumbit it, lol.

After 4 trips to Thailand I can honestly say I have only talked to a mamasan twice in a gogo bar. Once was to complain abouut a girl and the other was to negotiate a lower rate for a girl from Baccara. I think the barfine was 700 and the girl wanted 4000 for LT. Since I had brought stuffed animals for Valentines Day and given one to the girl and the mamasan they agreed on a lower BF and LT for only 3000. Thanks....but no thanks. I think the mamas and papas help in MP's but not gogos. Just my two satang.

The primary function of a mamasan is to supervise the girls. Tasks include making sure girls make their dancing rounds on time, the coming and going of girls, hiring of new girls. They assist the manager with those things he doesn't want to do (because he's a either a guy or a farang).
Some bars employ upto 3 or 4 mamasans. There are good ones and bad ones. The bad ones extort money from the girls.
