Many are parasites. Hanging around trying to get you to buy them a drink, if not outright ask you for a drink or point blank stick out their hand and ask for a tip. One night, in a very popular bar/gogo, one of the mama-san asked me for a drink and then turned around right in front of me, took the lid off the employee tip jar next to the cashier, and helped herself to a fist full of cash. When she saw the way I was looking at her, she was at least human enough to show embarrassment. I've only met one or two that appear to be half way decent people, the rest are pond scum.

I must say that 100 per cent of the mamasans I know well (as in 'they've been to my house for social reasons') are very pleasant people. The girls in the bars they work in almost universally like them and they do 'favours' for many of them, such as clocking them in if they're going to be a bit late and the boss isn't there.
Fair's fair -- they're people just like everyone else. Some good, some OK, some bad.

So true that in some places the mamasans wont recomend a girl if the girl hasnt given her some cash first. I had this happening to me in NEP, I was about to barfine a girl and the mamasan came to me while the girl was dancing and told me that this girl was "not good and that many customers complain about her". I barfined her anyway and she turned out to be just fine.
Later the following day I told her about what the mamasan sayed and she was not surprised and simply told me that she was new in that bar and refused to pay the mamasan, so this mamasan was doing everything she could to distract potential customers from her...

100 % of the time the REAL mamasan is nice its all the small run arounds "helpers" that break my good night off by begging stealing asking for tip and money. They have the stomach to ask for anything and in patpong I just puke on them. But the BIG mamasan is most nice otherwise the bar would not have any customers.
