Noise pollution anywhere is unwanted.
No-one said it didn't happen anywhere else.
Hearing damage is welcomed by nobody.
Ear-plugs are a good thing for a pneumatic drill operator but do not protect the guy from damage to his central nervous system.
Personally, I would not wish to wear ear-plugs when going out to enjoy company and have a good time.
Just imagine guys having to negotiate details of the time after bar-fining as to what they want with a lady.
I suppose the body language and mime would be an entertainment in itself.
But no thanks. No ear-plugs for me.
As for carrying on a conversation with the guys you are with or with the ladies there, noise levels in some bars preclude that.
I want a liittle something more from an evening besides visual delights and thumping noise levels that vibrate up your spine.

Stop going to these damn noisy bars, save your money, and then buy a bar where you can then decide what kind of music should be played and how loud you want it to be.

Interesting point though, a quiet bar or a bar that plays music in which you can have a normal conversation.
I can only count a handful.
This is not to say that I am not at times drawn to the raging, raving, head-on madness of the complete abandon of some of the noisier bars. They certainly have their appeal.
I just wish the volume was turned down a few notches. It wouldn't take too much of a wrist action.
It's one reason why I don't go to discos.

Always thought that the level in Toxic was just fine....
Always liked the ambience of Champagne Lounge.... although never understood their choice of music and it's associated loudness level...

This is not really much different to most clubs in LA.
I never said it was, my dear fellow. I would have little reason to compare a bar in Bangkok to one in the West, or specifically in LA, except to laugh with derision and astonishment that I wasted so much time hanging around such places. No, I don't get out there much, or get out much there. Not anymore.
However, I feel adequate to describing bars here In Bangkok, which is what I was doing.
But when I did live there... I remember... as through a glass darkly... yes... How tedious: it was all the above as well, in addition to not enough naked easy chicks.

Yes indeed, Baquawn, and I'm usually thankful to live in our modern world where such wonderful devices are available. Tho I agree with Joe Wood's thoughts about them, I still put them in whenever I enter a loud music venue. It's the only way my damaged ears can bear the noise. I like the wax earplugs, and Boots sells a decent product. But the best I've found are not sold here. Mack's Pillow Soft Earplugs, sold in America, are one of the few items I order online.
But of course, when you're young and improving, who thinks of protecting your ears with earplugs? I sure didn't. I used to go out to gogo bars most evenings, when Nana was at full throttle in the late '90s, before Purachai. Many animated conversations took place with friends yelling in my ears, and me yelling in theirs, as the music blared. I never realized the damage that was being done. My tinnitus developed slowly over the years. I was marginally aware of the occasional whining in my right ear. Only recently has it become impossible to ignore.
As a customer who is still somewhat addicted to the gogo bar scenes, I am grateful for earplugs. Conversation is hampered, but I still have my eyes, and my hands. But the employees are not so lucky. The girls can't really wear earplugs and do their work, can they? Maybe the DJ, sitting in his booth, has plugs stuck in his ears, so he can crank up his noise to others' discomfort level.
IMHO, our modern world has outpaced our evolutionary ability to deal with the rapid changes. Our ears have not yet adapted to the decibel levels achieved by modern technology. From Beethoven to boom boxes in a couple of centuries is way too fast.
Ears are delicate. Tinnitus is a bitch, and deafness is much worse. Earplugs are good, but how many people start using them until it's a little too late?
