It had its own generator and if I remember right, the circuit breaker control panel was in the DJ room. There was a big issue over the loudness of the music at the time just the selection which was all Thai Issan country songs.

Quote from Italiathug :..."Maybe you old gits/nerds should call the tourist police." Firstly, I don't think that the Tourist Police would want to take on the responsibility of having to have a hand on the volume controls of all bars in the city every night of the week. Secondly, wouldn't it be far better to have the bar-owners realise themselves that the louder the music doesn't necessarily mean more custom. In fact the reverse, in extreme cases. And thirdly, I don't think you have to be an old git or a nerd to have compassion, empathy or consideration for one's fellow human beings. Conversely, to be lacking in these, you could be anybody or even a young nobody.

I know some of the bar owners in NEP and they cannot control their DJ's A lot of them are on their own power trip backup by Thai thugs if you fire them.

Joe Wood's thought, "Secondly, wouldn't it be far better to have the bar-owners realise themselves that the louder the music doesn't necessarily mean more custom. In fact the reverse, in extreme cases." is echoed in today's (May 9) Bangkok Post, Guru Magazine, page 4. Post writer Arglit Boonyai writes "If there is only a small amount of people in your bar/pub/club it is under no circumstances necessary for you to play your music SO GOD DAMN LOUD!... This only means that people can no longer talk to each other and it's not likely that anyone will be dancing because your average Somchai's inhibitions do not permit them to get up and start dancing in an empty room! Thus, your patrons become unhappy because they can't get up and dance and they can't talk to each other. Instead they either leave or they just sit there in silence." So it seems that even some Thais do not appreciate having their eardrums blasted.

Actually, due to differing tastes, as far as most GoGo's are concerned, I'm tempted to ask: What music?

What music indeed? Thanks to seajohn and especially Joe Wood for your compassionate comments. Maybe this thread should be moved to the Health Matters forum. Most of our AGoGo Bar posters don't seem to have a clue as to what awaits them down the agogo road. I'm hoping that much remains to be written about this very common health matter, and how we are affected here in LOS (Land of Sound), but that maybe the Bars Forum is not the best place to reach those concerned.

Although being fortunate not to have a hearing problem, if the decibel level is uncomfortable I'm out the door in a nano second, one of many reasons I'll never go to Angeles City, P.I. again, never heard anything in LOS as bad as there Maybe it's because I'm not a resident but I enjoy most music in the PTY & BKK gogo's, at least for a little while, sort of a fine line between creating a fun atomsphere or going beyond to 'get me outta here'
