Yea, so the go-go bars have racist policies because that is what the clientele wants? But the high-end karaoke places don’t have racists policies because they are well schooled and above any redneck racist tendencies?
I have traveled to a number of cities/ countries in my stay on this planet, and I have yet to travel to one where I did not run into a racist. The US still has them, Europe still has them, Asia still has them, and yes, even lovely Thailand still has them.
I have heard my share of racists comments from Thai's in regards to Africans, Japanese, Chinese, Indians, and people from the Middle East as well. Ranging from the BG, up to some fairly well off individuals. On the same note I have heard my fair share of racist comments from fellow BTF members as well. Seems none of us are above the fray.
Taking a position that there is no racism in Thailand, or that the racism that does exist is not due to the local Thais (of course it can’t be their fault), is about like the famous ostrich position of sticking one’s head in the sand/dirt. Only in this case it might be more comparable to having one’s head firmly inserting into ones derriere – I heard ducks can do this?
As for those high end places that you say it is the individual that matters – I think it has more to due with how much baht those individuals are willing to part with more than the color blindness of the Thai establishment that allows them to be members.
And I guess all those redneck racists that don’t want to associate with the Africans and the Indians are just fine hanging out with the Japanese?
This is not new information - Racism exists in Thailand – live with it.

quack quack,, only one major mistake,, you assume that Aborigines are human, or more accurately truly Homo sapien,, I question your thinking.
It is true they walk on two legs,, so do chickens and many other bi=peds ( lol infact all bi-peds). One of the many factors associated with being class under homo sapien includes being able to clothe and feed oneself. The aboriginies that I see now are incapable of doing this without free hand outs from the Australian government.
Most of which gets spent on alcohol and petrol for sniffing,, but maybe a few dollars get dropped from boozed out - petrol sniifed out hands.
Then you talk about "Chinks", well, I think the words was actually "Ching" ( funny you mention that,, the latest Thai slang I learnt was "ching Chong" means to have a piss),we now have a major Chinese community especially in a suburb called Hurstville,, We welcomed a large population of Vietnamese post the French disgrace ending in Vietnam 1975 (a number of which are my close friends, yes that is why I can speak some Viet)
Then again,, your extensive experience, lol, living in Australia would put you in a far great position to judge rather than my mere 44 years born, bred and living here.
If people could be more like me and HATE everyone equally it would be a far better world

Thanks for some good posts here where some sanity has prevailed.
I think in all fairness, we can acknowledge the fact that everywhere, in every country of the globe, we will find prejudice and discrimination................ that is based on a whole lot of different rafts, depending on the people involved at either end of the stick and the situations and circumstances that surround them.
What is naive, is to raise the flag of innocence for one nation as against the flag of guilt for another.
Anyone who purports to find no discrimination in a country, nation, city must have his head buried in the sand, or as someone inferred earlier, stuck up his own arsehole.
Thais are guilty just as much as the British, Americans, Australians, Chinese, etc. It is a human failing.....and it is so easy for the simple minded to slip into stereotypifying............it is so general, and so not so laden with gult or responsibility.....as opposed to talking about an individual.
There are rotten, evil people in every nation.
And there are good, honest, salt-of-the-earth people in every nation.
But for the blinkered, who wish not to exercise their brains but to easily dismiss others whom they have no or a limited understanding of, the path is easy to condemn.
And once taken, it opens them up to the very same unquestioning, unthinking, moronic condemnation that is sometimes written here in these pages, as the above post is a prime example.
Reading some of these entries, I really do wish that some people would refrain from wearing their ignorance on their sleeves.
And those endearing brothers who hail from privileged and developed countries laced with Equal Opportunity Poicies and laws and anti-discriminatory rules, just bear in mind that here you are moving in another culture, a different society, a different people and a different time.
Please don't assume that everything you know, even if it is limited to 44 years,, can be easily applied here......or is even relevant.

Please guys, I am neither diabolical nor ignorant.
Yes racism is a reality of the world,,, we all try to claim we are not racist but if sufficient questions are slanted in the correct area we are all racist, sad but true.
A survey could ask,," do you believe black men have less brain mass than white men. The quandry,, we know it is racist to say YES,, even though scientific facts say " ON average" this is true.What to do,, lie ?
If we say yes its true we are labled as racist even though the scientific facts support our answer. This is NOT to say that the smartest man in all the world is not black,, that indeed could be true.
Same as the man with the largest penis in the world may be of Japanese origin,, but survey's suggest that Japanese penises on average are smaller than caucasian, which in turn on average are smaller than black people.
Its a horrible can of worms this racist thing,, you cant win if you tell the truth, you cant win any way you turn.
That is why I figure if I take the stance of hating everyone equally, then I have half a chance of being seen as ok.
Like it / Hate it up to you.

Guys, although it was an entertaining read, I am not sure it is the topic people expect to read about when coming into the Rainbow Thread.
Having said that, I was at Rainbow4 earlier and could not find 1 lady that appealed to me... not even one! maybe you guys are right... beer goggles are a must prior to stepping into RB4

I sent a copy of Mel's diatribe on aborigenes not being homo sapiens to one of my good australian friends, who happens to be both an aborigene and a successful businessman. We had a good laugh and we did what was obviously the only thing to do: try to assess Mel's brain mass from his ranting. Sadly, it appears to be too low to register any scale we have. We agreed also that pity, rather than contempt was the appropriate feeling to have towards this poor fellow human being.
Back to topic: was in Rainbow 4 last week and I was not impressed by the quality of ladies there.

I stopped into RB4 last night to have a look around. I did see two birds who’s plumage was of interest. But there was too much attitude, and even though I was only looking for ST that seems to be the default request in this bar right now. It would be nice if they helped me to support my delusion of being a han-some man by telling me that they would go LT if I want – or is that asking too much?
Must say the line-up was not as good as I expected. I think it is Golden Week in Japan so quite a lot of Japanese in town this week – so maybe the best of the lot was already busy?

I'm confused - where you the one complaining about racism, as in, pretending racism is a bad thing?
I have a feeling there's more aborigines in Australia able to clothe and feed themselves, than there are Aussie rednecks able to go one day without falling over drunk.
