This big third floor bar is opening tomorrow under a new name and new management... at last....
Thank you so much. It's purely a selfish feeling on my part.
I was getting a bit worried about the dead bar syndrome of the empty third floor spreading downward to engulf the whole complex.....
...............not that I visit very much but it is nice to know that it is still there as a major distraction for the tourists so they don't all swamp the places that I like to go to.

There may be business connections but the new bar is being run under the Angelwitch management. Granted a lot of girls who worked in the old Carousel went to DC-10 for the short while and have returned to the new bar.
Maybe they have all chipped in, in some form or another, as a defensive action to stop the apparent deterioration.
I didn't see any magic shows thank goodness and hopefully the full 'showing' will be slowly slipped into once it feels it is establishing itself.

It's now called Billboard. There's still one carousel but the other one has been replaced with a jacuzzi and shower stage where you get girls taking showers and jacuzzi bath.

The rich may have become richer and the gap between the rich and the poor certainly even wider, but if you consider the employment opportunities of now compared to 10 or 15 years ago and the level of starting salaries for Thais, not much has changed at all,in fact a lot of it is exactly the same as before.
I'd agree. There's still no social security system. p4p won't die out as long as:
1. There are irresponsible Thai men (and women) having kids before they're ready and then running off, leaving the women with the cost of bringin up the kids.
2. There are greedy/wasteful/gambling/irresponsible family members(particularly mothers, it seems) pushing their daughters to bring them money and consumer goods that they can show off to their neighbours.
3. Moral values outweigh the desire for money/cars/gold/gambling/drugs/face. I.e. Someone stands up and says 'No, I don't want my daughter to work in p4p just for some material goods we could do without'
4. There isn't a decent education system, valued by Thai people.
5. Cronyism and corruption and deference to 'face' are preferred above transparency and merit and ideas in work.
It just seems like p4p is dying out because there are so many more tourists here than before. Many more families and 'normal' tourists come here than before, so mongers make up a smaller proportion. Many more farangs live here now than ever before, even single farang women! (Imagine that 10 years ago!) Bars are more spread out than before so there are fewer girls in each one. The Internet and opening up of countries has brought more monger tourists here too, lots of lonely men from all over the world have heard of Thai girls and now compete for them. Demand has increased.

One thing I know : the Thai lady who have "normal" works (i m speaking about educated lady, not 7/11 clerks) are terrified by the prospect of loosing their job because as they say
"Now in my country you cna only loose job, not find new one!"
And most consider P4P as a solution in case of big troubles...
So no, P4P in Thailand is not dying at all.

I remember the days when there were NO bars on the third floor and only a couple on the ground level. The third floor had a large pool hall and a guest house. The ground level was mostly restaurants, a travel agency, a VD clinic and just a couple of go-go bars. The second floor was where most of the bars were. It all started to change somewhere in the 1993-1995 period as I recall. It's got a long way to go to get back to that level (but of course there are 5 times as many tourists now). Anyone else remember this? It was a much nicer place to hang out in those days for sure.

You forgot to tell them to be sure to clean the residual foam off their nipples prior to tasting. I seem to recall a certain member here did exercise proper foam wiping the other night, so this is not directed at you.
