The Office is the best bar on Soi 33.
The planned expansion is due to market research, customer feed-back and the knowledge that the demand is high.
Good to see that the big sports screen at the front is now back on track, after such a long time.
No use dippig in for a look and then leaving it for a couple of months. The turn-over of cuties in the Office is incredible.
Those of you who have known it since it's beginning and have been regularly attending, know that the intake of cuties comes in waves. They get quickly sponsored or taken out long, long time and then return or not. many not. And its one of the headaches of management to keep the supply topped-up.
I must say that over the past eighteen months, the supply has rarely dwindled, they have had a few dips just before the next influx of lovelies. But I must say that the quality and standard of girl is, on the whole incredible.
Pleasant. humourous. Engaging in conversation. Ready to entertain, and such a good feeling between the ladies. A Sort of Star of Light in evening dresses without the action at the bar, but all geared up to deliver off-site. But then, we talk of the 1,200 baht bar-fine...and then the amount asked for by the lady herself.
But if you are a regular and you are known by them, and go for the same one or two, then you will be surprised at just how low things can get. (?)
Each day a different outfit. White shirt and jeans on the Sunday. evening dress I think now on a Saturday, could be a Friday. Too much to drink. And then that wonderful halter-neck dress with the leopard skin pattern, I recollect Wednesdays, that reaches to the glutial fold and the wearing of it necessitates no bra, just gets me all hot and bothered. I have to have a beer just thinking about it.
Toilets are clean and sparkling.
Food is top-notch.
Service on the ball.
And the friendliness of the staff is just wondeful.
For a first time, control yourself. Just go in there and have a few games of pool. Resist the temptation to get take-out. You'll be so impressed by the friendliness and cheerfulness of the ladies.
Yes, there are some who have been there a little while. But most are new and are looking for a way out of the bar scene. ( Which lady isn't ?)
Or, you can go in there and just watch the sport and not be troubled at all by any lady if you so wish.
A really comfortable, cool place to be.
Just tell them what you want.
Mind you, at times it can be busy, especially if a good rugby match is showing, which is often.
And very occasionally, you have to put up with a foreign customer or two who have yet to learn how to behave in a place like this. But then, no place is perfect, except the Star of Light of course.

Degas is finally undergoing a much overdue rennovation... the place has smelled like a urinal for years. As to whether cleaning it up (a la Papa's) without any change of MO will have any positive impact on business... that's a different question.
R Club (aka Oliver Reed's) is also full of workmen, proving that hope springs eternal. Somehow I doubt that either new venue will offer much competition to The Office, or The Next Office.

I popped into Big Shots on the last trip, some cute girls, not too many customers and some good drink specials. (2 for 1 on some nights). Worth a look.
Man, Baccus has changed! Used to be a 'classy' place with some cute, attentive girls and bartenders. Now, just a few girls and no customers. Maybe it was just slow the night we were there.
Anyone been to the Shamrock Club? Used to be Richmond Club. Have they changed staff?

No, the number of customers has dwindled dramatically. It's quiet most nights.
DrLoveFriend, an avid fan of Bacchus before, inquired if they hire from Chiang Mai Zoo nowadays.
But the same is true for other bars on the Soi. Monet, Lucky L. and others......

SAD to see monet quality has dropped,, I will never forget my first trip to LOS in 1998 ( and before I get the old man flames I was 14 at the time ---joke) and had met a friendly pom on the plane over. He invited me to join his wife and friends for a party the next night, drew a map and everything,,,,,,,,,,, do you think I could get the taxi driver to get me there ? nah zero chance in hell.
Anyway I saw a group of beautiful gals in pink dresses in front of a club and thought yep get out here,, stop stop stop.... exited cab and to draw a long story short I had a great night and a lovely gal from monet happily accompanied me to my hotel ( L/T ) for what I thought was an excellent 3,000BHT price.
AHHH the memories of those mammaries.

I must admit that since the first time I arrived in soi 33 there are far less customers.
IMHO: I base my advice on a few points:
- Being there at (almost) the same date from one year to another.
- Pay a visit to the same bars as above.
For me, ladies "quality" has not changed that much over the years and there are more and more who speak decent some English now.
(Still have to find some who speak my native language though)
Prices have not changed that much too.
Anyway, I will see in May if things have changed a lot in a few months.

Things have not changed dramatically in "a few months", but the 33 market is significantly different from what it was 5 years ago... the number of clubs is about the same, but the number of providers and customers in most of those clubs has declined. Many are marginal, and survive only because the owners have other resources and do not need to run them as profit centers.
The majority are struggling, and I don't believe that a cosmetic makeover (like Papa, Degas and now Monet are undergoing) is going to make any difference. Most of the places need a new MO. The Thai owners like Anand need to wake up and clone the successful venues instead of clinging to what worked 5-10 years ago... but don't hold your breath...
