Maybe I'm Mr. Vanilla and just don't know it.
Day after Songkran finished, stopped by Soi 7 Bier Garten around 3pm for an hour. Given that the number of girls was reduced, heavy on the "male" side, but still, several cute ones around to catch the eye. Amazing how they can make eye contact from across the room  20/20 vision must be a job prerequisite.
For a change, stepped out to Foodland for a late lunch. Came back for another hour at 5pm. Now, more populated, both male AND female. One cutie at the end of the bar had a lot of suitors, but no nuptials; she was still there when I left.
But while sitting there, slight commotion couple chairs down. Had overheard a young punter assessing the potential of a girl across the bar, saying that as she was not rail thin, he'd play on her insecurities during contract negotiations (which assumes an English comprehension level that may, or may not, be there). Retreated to a table where he could conduct the job interview in private. Seems that negotiations failed, as 30 minutes later, she was back at her bar seat. He had started to interview another candidate when both parties exited the area, and not in a good way (think management/union).
He was complaining to some friends about how Thai women were so bossy, controlling (huh?), and then she started going off on him, along the lines of "You think you can touch me because you such hansum man"... Though I do think hers was partially fueled by some artificial stimulants, the way she was bouncing around earlier.
I don't know, maybe I've just led a sheltered life, but, to me, just business... If the contract negotiations fail, well, always more potential candidates around. No reason to get upset. And bossy? Maybe I've just never been able to break through their pleasing facade...

Fair warning: Broken Pencil Story
Once again, found myself at the Soi 7 Biergarten this afternoon. Actually seemed like there were less females than yesterday, but that might be an illusion/delusion. Did spot a few (by now) familiar faces. Actually saw Miss Royalty, who had spurned so many suitors yesterday, get pulled today. Seems she is very selective, no doubt higher maintenance, low mileage on the equipment her goal. Must work for her... she was back in 90 minutes...
Bumped into a couple of gregarious Brits, so found myself a bit distracted from the surveillance mode. Couple of times saw a nice pair pass by out of the corner of my eye, only to not know where they went by the time I turned around.
Decision time, decided to try a chance on Maturity, a lady I'd spotted yesterday but couldn't quite decide if I wanted or not, so eventually didn't. Now, I'm not saying she's a dragon, but if she was a milk carton in the fridge, you WOULDN'T be chugging out of it, but rather be taking a SMALL sip to test, so close to that expiration date.
Actually thought I'd missed my chance again, as while I was talking, she got swept up, QUICK negotiation, and out the door. But she was back within the hour, so it's either experience or disaster...
On her return, she was close enough to engage in conversation. And that's where the fantasy collided with reality...- Smoker's teeth, as in 3rd world smoker's teeth. Shame, because when she smiled, you just wanted to say "Please don't". Of course, it did take me a bit of time to work up to the face as the cleavage was legit.
- Asked where she was from, she replied "Hong Kong". OK, maybe that was meant as a joke, but it was said seriously, or at least without a smile, which I was glad of (see above). Turns out she's 50/50, but PRC is not an unknown attribute to me.
- "3rd strike you're out" was when I gave the oral questionnaire - bbbj ok, but cim... the grimace, combined with the "how much you pay [extra]" did it for me. Could be VERY wrong, but I had the feeling that her forte was "quick", not "nasty". Or maybe given the earlier success, she could be a bit more picky...
Wished her good luck, and threw it into reverse. Other places to be, so left. Nice thing about the Bier Garten, a new cast tomorrow.
And the broken pencil? This story has no point. You were warned.

Close, But No Cigar
Boring afternoon, hungry (in more ways than 1), thirsty, so after running some errands, once again dropped by Soi 7 Bier Garten mid-afternoon. Not all that crowded. Lunch + drink, (truthfully, drink then lunch), looked around. Couple of cuties, but occupied. Kept the radar on surveillance.
Spotted 1 across the bar, but initially ignored her. As time passed, now thinking I'd traipse down to Annies; a repeat there from a fun time last week. And if Annie's 1st choice wasn't available, could check the availability of several others on the Annie's to-do list.
However, as the afternoon wore on, Annies seemed to move farther and farther down the road. Miss BG7 was improving, and not because the bar was not all that populated. Checked my beer goggles; no, it wasn't that. But I did think I was beginning to see a facial resemblance to Tia Carrera (OK, as in 2nd cousin, 3rd person removed, or something like that). Still, if nothing else, the cleavage was growing on me.
However, by now, I was invisible on HER radar, due to my ignoring her earlier. Took awhile, but finally made eye contact, played the "should I come over and sit with you?"/"I'm not sure yet" game, but finally gave her THE nod.
Up close, in some ways, the face younger than I expected. Nice dress (plus for attire, even if it would soon be removed), nice personality, good marketing. Discussed menu, all oral questions a go. The longer the delay to the finish, the more work it would take to get there, and that road was lengthening, even if I wasn't.
Here I'd been thinking, after the 1st 2 rounds, with high expectations for the 3rd, I'm going to have to put this one on speed dial. But now, it was, well, maybe, if I ever bump into her again.
I reminded her that she had said oral was on the menu, so she returned to the deed, but asked that I let her know when I was about to finish. OK, only ONE reason why that answer should not be a surprise, the dreaded "head flick" maneuver.
We compromised with a COT's, which allowed her to save face (pun intended). Just over 2 hours later, exited the room (so much for the 3 hours, but each of us had other places to be, and since it was no extra room money, no big deal). But certainly any future meeting would be chance, not dialed, and like the title says, close, but no cigar (another poor pun).
Yes, I was slightly disappointed. But I did remember the definition of disappointed: the difference between your fantasy and reality.
Still, attractive enough for 3 across the bow (well, make that 2 plus 1 up the main port). The BG7 continues to deliver for afternoon takeaway. Given its size, compared to other afternoon bars, I like it. Just like Forest Gump said, you never know what you're going to pull out.
Similar to previous BG7 excursions, later on, around 8pm, made my way to Tilac, Soi Cowboy. No real plans except for a beer and a bratwurst while watching the dancers before heading home. OK, granted, it was a Tuesday, but Tilac was SPARSE. Couple of the a-listers there, but a number of the chorus missing. If I had been looking for early evening company, I would have looked elsewhere.

Ive been a regular at Tulip, Mango and SnowWhite for so long that I forgot what a difference great service makes.
Stopped in at BG7 around 1pm. All lady eyes tracked me as I walked in and sat down near the back. I settled in perusing the offerings slowly and a fearless lass came up and sat one seat away from me. She was not pushing but clearly smart enough to know a conversation would start. She was shapely as all hexk and had a nice smile. BTW: for any who venture to the Playboy hotel, watch out for the bathrooms. An accident waiting to happen. Unlike the Penthouse, where the bathroom floors are level, the Playboy has a small level section, then a small step up (as in 1 tile high) to a small plateau, then after a meter, a step down. Yes, great at preventing water entering the room, but could be deadly, especially given the step is faced with the same tile as the floor. Easy to stub your toe going up, and easy to take a pratfall going down, especially when wet. Surprised I didn't, though came close several times.

I agree. While the above mentioned MP's are the major leagues, sometimes it's fun to go watch the minors, the semi-pros. It's just a different kind of anticipation, with the Bier Garten providing the unexpected - a few errors, but sometimes some solid base hits.
