If you stay at the Shangri-La, you can take the dinner cruise they offer. The gourmet buffet is quite extensive, for about 1500 I think, excluding drinks. I've been able to get hotel rooms on Priceline for as low as $55 USD + tax, and they included breakfast. On the river, and just a 5 minute walk from the BTS.

I'd back up Khepher on the cruise much better than the big gin palaces that go up and down. I think it’s the one I went on when I took farang GF to BKK. Leaves from river city shopping centre and has a TG playing an old type of Classical Thai instrument thingy?
Half decent food as well!
