Diddler, I've used HK and US pricelines to book hotels in BKK. Both worked just fine. The selection of hotels seems about the same. BTW, I have even used HK priceline to bid on hotels in a small town in the US midwest. I don't think there is any difference in the amount it will take to get a hotel to accept a bid. I doubt the hotels care if you are using US or HK priceline. However, there are just some minor differences. The set fees that the pricelines charge are a little bit different. You have to figure into your cost the conversion rate you get on your credit card for the purchase in HK$. HK priceline allows you to try an additional bid if you increase the bid (by 50 HK$ I think). US priceline won't let you rebid unless you change something else (area, dates, quality) or wait 72 hours. US priceline has a minimum bid level below which your bid will be summarily rejected and you have to wait 72 hours, etc. to rebid. As far as I know, HK priceline does not have minimum bid levels set.

UK, only bid for the 5 star hotels on Priceline in Bangkok and you won't have any problems. You can go to http://biddingfortravel.com and learn more about the hotels being offered on Priceline, and winning bids for the hotels listed. It also tells you how to get free rebids, etc... Priceline is a great way to book hotels, not such a good way to book flights. Flights can have multiple stops and *long* layovers. My experience in booking hotels on Priceline has always been positive. Speaking of, I have the JW Marriott for over a week in November for $55 a night. A steal!

After one unsuccessful bid @ $65 for Shangri-La, I was able to get it at that price for 4 days in December on a second try. Although the location may not be as close to the action, the Shangri-La is more than $10 better than the JW Marriot IMHO, if you are assigned to the new Krungthrep wing. Although breakfast is not included in Priceline bookings, you can still get a free continential breakfast at Shangri-La if you join their Golden Circle club. Also, is guest friendly. I would recommend that Priceline users consider this option for 5 star accomodations in Riverside-Silom area. Certainly one of the best hotels in town.

Quote: from Diddler on 5:27 am on Nov. 3, 2003 I am curious if it makes much of a difference if you use Priceline - Hong Kong, or Priceline (US) when bidding on the Bangkok JW Marriott? Diddler
There is also PL SIN (www.priceline.com.sg). Take note though, I attempted to bid, to see if there is any difference, for the exact same area & same price but was consistantly rejected. Went back to PL USA & placed 2 successful bids for the hotel & price I wanted. It might indicate that they use a different database.

Bros, I was quite pissed off when I found out that I could not book a priceline hotel because I didn't live in the USA. I live in Canada. But do not fear my brothers, I am about to make my FIRST useful post on this website.........I have found a loophole (thanks to biddingfortravel.com).....Enter your city ie. toronto, or vancouver. Enter your state as CA. Enter your zip as 99999. And most important, I hear it will only accept Mastercard. It worked for me, I tested $40 for 4*, for Novotel Lotus. I didn't really want to stay there, but I wanted to see if it would work. I am honoured to help any of my fellow Canadian brothers,.....thank me with a few JWBL s!!

Manhattan was booked for my first few nights in BKK so I tried out priceline by bidding $55 for 5 star. I got the JW Marriott. What a wonderful hotel!!! As soon as I checked in I knew I would be disappointed when I had to move to the Manhattan. $55 for the Marriott is a steal and as long as I can come close to that price for a 5 star I will never stay anywhere else in BKK.
