When using priceline you dont have any control if you get a guestfriendly hotel or not. You can not choose or request any specific hotel. Correct??

VB, Read the link I provided earlier in this thread (Priceline Asia Discussion Board) it describes everything about how Priceline works for hotels. Also there is an FAQ on the Priceline site you should read first as well. In short you blindly bid for a hotel based on quality and location. However, the discussion board tracks what list of hotels are participating and their 'star' rating. For the Sukhumvit area the only participating '5 star' hotels are WGS, Sheraton Grande Sukhmvit and the JW Marriott. If you bid for a 5 star in the Sukhumvit area it should be one of those three, but you can't pick which. You can read on bkktonite whether these 3 are girl friendly, which they all are.

Based on my research, these hotels are available via Priceline usually: Sukhumvit 5* - JW/WGS/SGS Sukhumvit 4* - Novotel Lotus Sukhumvit 3* - Regency Park (couldn't get it recently - may be gone) Siam Square 4* - Novotel Siam Riverside/Silom 5* - Shangri-La Riverside/Silom 4* - RO Sheraton, Marriott Resort Priceline books your reservation automatically for two persons, so that might help in case it's a non-friendly hotel. As for Westin rooms for PL bids - you most definitely will NOT automatically get a renovated room. I was told in very straight terms that the reservation is for non-renovated but since I asked nicely and had SPG Gold status, they'd make a one-time exception. Worked on my second stay too, and the exec floor rooms are VERY nice.

Noticed that someone referred to the Conrad. I stayed at the Conrad a few weeks ago and got a fairly decent rate of $85 a night for a regular room. I am a HHonors Gold VIP so automatically get upgraded to the Exec Floor, which has the same rooms but with a lounge etc. I thought the Conrad was great, I stayed in a Standard room for a night then upgraded to a suite for an extra $50 a night (this was partially a business trip so I could reclaim the cost). Conrad was very girl friendly, I never had any problems in my first few nights with different girls, then for a week with a girl who I hope will be my regular TGF. The guys checking for ID were even very apologetic about asking my TGF for ID, when I explained that she was in fact staying with me, Probably not the cheapest place in BKK but I thought it was pretty good value.

bucksfun, it's good to hear that the Conrad is girlfriendly. I was thinking about staying there. It is new hotel and I am a Hilton Gold VIP too and have points I can redeem. How convenient was the location relative to nights spots? Which ones were you going to?

tourist It was pretty convenient for the nightspots, I did a cpl of days at nana & soi cowboy, followed by the rest of the week with my TGF. From the Conrad you can clearly see that the Landmark (and I thik the Melia) are very close, but actually getting there seems to take longer than you would expect 5-10 minutes, depending upon which bizarre route your cab driver takes. The biggest problem was that since the hotel was new almost no cab drivers knew where the hell it was. Thus grabbing the cards at the lobby is a good idea. I would be interested in your experiences, because I felt a little reluctant to take my TGF into the exec lounge, this was probably just stupidity on my part, but meant I bought unnecessary drinks in the bar on occasion. All that I would say is that I really like this hotel and plan to stay there on future trips (trying to get my diamond VIP card), so please be discreet. I wouldn't want them to change their policies.

Regarding the Westin massage - I have not tried it but the guy bringing my luggage suggested it to myself and my GF. I got te impression that it is more or less a normal massage thing. Just another Priceline comment - I made another 5* bid and got the JW Marriott for GBP 23 via Priceline UK. I was really expecting the Westin based on all reported bids on the various boards so this just shows that you can get any of the three. Not a problem for me though.

I just got back from the a stay at the Westin Grande Sukhumvit. To my happy surprise, I was given an executive room. It was very nice. I have never stayed at the JW Marriott, so I can't compare the two, but I was definitely very happy with my executive room at the WGS. Basically, similar but maybe slightly nicer to Westins I have stayed at in the US. Main difference being the very new, trendy decor. No problem bringing in one girl. They don't ask for an ID, and didn't have any problems, even if completely obvious that it is a bar girl. BUT: (1) I did feel uncomfortable at times. A lot of people there are people on business, and I didn't always feel comfortable around other guests, but this was not an issue with hotel staff and is more an issue of my own; (2) at one point, I had 2 TGs in my room. We were not actually having sex, I was just going to shower and change before we went out for dinner. While we were there, room service unexpectedly knocked on door, wanted to give us ice, and then wanted to go through room checking that each light worked. Maybe I am just being paranoid, but this has never happened to me before, and I suspect that they were trying to find an excuse to check in on me. (anybody have any thoughts on this?) VERY close to Soi Cowboy, a perfect location if going there.

jenufa, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at the WGS. About being checked up on or being paranoid, one thing that took getting used to for me staying at higher quality hotels is the level of attention and service received from the hotel staff. This includes that the cleaning staff come by to fix up the room several times during the day and different staff come by the room to do different things. My first experience with this (at a different hotel) was being startled when I came out of the bathroom to found a 'manager' in my room dropping off a complimentary telephone adapter and a box of cookies. I don't mind getting free stuff but I felt like there were too many people coming into and out of my room. It took a while to get used to. In your case, the WGS staff came by your room to give you ice and check the lights? That does sound suspicious. Did they give you ice any other time? They never gave me ice when I stayed there. Checking the lights gives them an excuse to look over the whole room. Of course you could be just paranoid and no hard done.
