I'd say you haven't seen the pool then. Typical comments from people who can't afford a cosmopolitan existence in the West and are trying to compensate in a third world country; they hate the reminders. Give it up.

Spurs Ma, well, yes, of course it's a flea pit, that's the allure, lol! As my TGF likes to remined me (while screwing her face up into a cute little frown), "teelakja, Nana hotel alway smew bad!" Re: drinking the pool water. The old pool used to have a whitish cast to the water, sorta like swiming in non-fat milk. I know of another fluid that looks vaguely like that, so it wasn't all that inviting. When I put on swim googles and checked it out, it wasn't really my idea of fine dining, lol! The new pool has clean water and a nice deck area (lots of room) as well as complimentary towels and bathrooms. For some reason, I haven't yet gotten sick from either the olde or new one, perhaps due to the chlorine level, lol! - Balls

You are quite right BC, I have not seen the new pool. However, if they maintain it like they do the rest of the hotel then it will be in a squalid state within a matter of weeks! However, I don't come to Thailand in order to afford "the cosmopolitan lifestyle" I can't obtain in the west!I tend to stay in hotels in the 1000 - 2000b category - hardly luxurious! For the same price as Nana, I would recommend Parkway Inn, Manhattan or even Dynasty Inn is better. Ask Thais what they think of Nana Hotel? And they'll tell you that anyone who checks in there is instantly labelled a lazy sex tourist!!! Black Cat, perhaps THAT is the limit of your existence!

Hey I object to that! I'm an ACTIVE sex tourist, thank you very much. But by day I do get out and explore the city in its heat which can make one fatigued. For me, the new pool looks like a great way to rejuvinate before heading out into BKK by night. I agree Nana tells everyone why you're in town. I think it's safe to say that Dyansty puts out the same message. In fact any Sukhumvit hotel screams sex tourist (lazy or otherwise). Let's stop kidding ourselves. Nana's conditions are exaggerated on this forum to the point of providing a false representation. It's all jealousy from the surrounding hotels who aren't as conveniently located to soi 4. Dynasty's the pot and Nana's the kettle IMHO. I haven't seen the inside of Manhattan or Parkway Inn so I'll lend you the courtesy you didn't lend me. I won't question your judgement if those places suit you. I just can't embarass myself by going to war on behalf of my preferred hotel. Apparently you can. In fact, in fairness I'll give those hotels a look next time I'm in town. You should check out Nana's pool so you can know what you're talking about before you judge others. Best wishes........BC

BC, A point very well made! Just for the record. Over the course of 6 visits spanning 3 years and a 6 month stint teaching English in LOS, I have stayed at the following hotels... Landmark, Dynasty, Nana, Grace, Fortuna, Park, Swiss Park, Roayal Asia Lodge, Parkway,Manhattan, Omni, Ambassador, Grottino and a few other apartments to boot! I don't favour any one hotel over another but do try to provide info to board members on places which I consider are poor value for money. Nana Hotel, in my opinion rates very poorly! The rooms are virtually crawling with insect & rodent life, the food stinks ( I wandered boh once and saw the kitchen & thats why I won't eat there!) and the sheets, upon close inspection show signs not only of wear and tear but traces of blood & semen! Sure you still wanna stay there? THe other hotel in the area which I would steer members away from is Royal Asia Lodge on soi 8. This place is infested with mosquitos & I know of numerous travellers who have contracted Ringworm after staying there! For each category I would recommend the following hotels.... UNDER 1000 BAHT PARKWAY INN 1000 - 1500 MANHATTAN 1500 - 2000 GROTTINO 2000+ LANDMARK Hope you guys still deciding where to stay find this of help!

After nearly 30 years of staying at the Nana it truly is a dump. Will give Majestic Suites a try on this trip, however I did receive a recent FR from a friend who did not like the MS. There are many on this board that do so will give it a try.

I have never stayed at the Nana,so cannot speak to the condoition of the rooms. It is,however, a famous BKK institution.Where else in the world can one find so large an establishment of this type? I do however drop by Angels disco on occasion...perhaps the LA Cafe of BKK? It is always a useful place to meet ladies looking for a male companion. I have also eaten in the restaurant sveral times...not half as bad as some posters make it out to be. By the way, the lady bartender in the lobby bar evenings is an old pal of mine and sorted out several problems for me in years gone past. She is a tough but kind old bird.

Hi guys, right now I plan my first visit in the LOS beginning end of June. I definitely want to stay a couple of days at the famous Nana (a MUST experience for me). However, a while back I've read on this forum that it happened to respectable members that on arriving at the Nana the reception staff couldn't find the online reservation the members had made. Even showing them the confirmation email didn't help, so "no loom, solly"! That wouldn't be the best start for my first visit, what do you think can I do? Maybe calling them every week to remind them of my online reservation? Or not bother at all, because end of June is low season and there should always be a room available? Thanks for your advice, I hope and look forward to join a round table if possible! Greetings from Germany Erdinger

I would call the day before you leave to confrim the reservation or email a fews day out. If you arrive and there's no reservation at all, there's plenty of hotels in the area, Majestic and Dynasty being about a 1 minute walk from Nana. If your reservation is denied, insist they call one of these hotels and get you a room, after all they owe you one. I doubt this will happen if your reservation is confirmed. I'm not saying the stories of other people aren't true, but with close by alternatives, I wouldn't worry about it.
