I tried to book the asiarooms.com, but no rooms available. So yes the rate is interesting but I could not book. Have seen both rooms and Soi 9 is a little bit better located but soi 19, where I stayed, was perfect. Asoke sky train in front of the door, as well as Robinson and Mc. Donalds. I enjoyed this City Lodge as the room was just renovated and the staff was friendly.

just booked this one on asia rooms which i've used before, 1485 baht with all that is a good deal,
good for my one night in BKK.
let you know if booking goes through, if not i'll try amari site as confirmed straight away,
hopefully can save 500 for a ST.

issanking have you tried both places? Try City Lodge Sukhumvit 9 also listed as renovated and even has a better location than the Suk 19 one. Similar price too. If all fails try the amari site erik has done it too and got instant confirmation.

Please take a look at an old post: THEFT at City lodge. My buddy used to love this place, great location, friendly staff & used to be much cheaper. He travels a lot in Asia for work & always kept passport, foreigh exchange (China RMB, Malay ringits, Sing $, etc. in the safety box. He also keeps a 500 EURO note as "emergency cash". You can't exchange a 500 EURO on the street...no one will touch it. Too much money. You might be drunk & exchange a few 100USD & not remember but not 500 Euro (about 23,000 Baht a couple years ago). After he reported the money missing, the AMARI staff "investigated" &, as you can guess, said NO WAY.
Needless to say, NO WAY would either of us ever stay there again. Too bad because it was a great, small, well located friendly place. Just be careful with your valuables

your friend was drunk and though he is exchanging one of the 100 US$ notes, the exchange place was not honest and pretended to give him bhat for 100 US$ or something like that. He simply forgot or has not noticed he used the 500 euro note. This is what happens when you have too many different currencies...better use travelers checks or use ATM cards for this. Happened to me sometimes to give a US$100 instead of US$10, but I was lucky the other party noticed it (also happened to me at the airport to give 1000 bhat note and get no change back from limo where the price was listed as 600b). So like in every place in thailand, be careful, but chances of the safe being openned there are smaller... in anycase, do not carry too much cash...
