Exploring the option of trying Lebua Residences, pretty upscale serviced apartments and suites, at the State Tower down on Silom near the river (www.lebua.com) on my forthcoming trip to BKK. The place has fantastic restuaraunts, a great gym, and the famous Scirocco bar on the rooftop of the building.

Wanted to know if anyone's stayed there and what their experience has been like, specifically:

1. Quality of rooms and service, food, etc. vs price.

2. Whether the place is GF friendly.

3. How accessible is it (the BTS seems a short walk away, but is it really convenient for late night excursions to the Suk?).

Would appreciate any pointers/advice from people who may have experienced the place recently. I used the search engine and found nada on it on the forum.

Thanks.

I have stayed there quite a few times since it opened about 3 years ago, including my most recent trip in March of this year. In general, I like the place, considering the quality and space of the rooms, the restaurants, and the service.

To answer your questions:

1. As you know, the rooms are all suites, so you have good space. The decoration is modern. Not too fancy, but confirtable. The king beds are huge and very comfortable. The bathroom is also quite spacious. The food is good to excellent, depending on your choice of restaurant. I consider the prices of the rooms and food reasonable for the quality. The bars are good places for drinks, with good cocktails and decent wine list.

2. The place is GF. Never had any problem bring back girls. However, the top floor reataurants have dress codes.

3. It's about 10 minutes to the BTS Saphan Taksin station on foot. For nighttime excursions to the Suk, you can take the BTS, and return by taxi. Most taxi drivers know State Tower on Silom.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks, Robusto.

Looks like a good deal to me! Will post a report after my stay there.

Yes, but maybe not the kind you're looking for.

If you like water, there's a river close by. And of course there's Chinatown at not too long distance. Oh, yeah, and an area called Patpong. Not sure what's going on there...

I've stayed there a couple of times, and gave up after the guy at the front desk once tried to charge us for joiner fees as I brought along a couple of male friends and at least as many girls in the middle of the night. The orgy went on in my mate's place in the JTC but never tried Lebua anymore. Yet I've checked in the same building (State Tower) larger long term appartments and also similar 65sqm suites with only a tad less stylish furnitures that some nepalese guy was renting for 2000THB a night. Very good value although I didn't indulge, I don't like much how those suites have a low ceiling and lack daylight but definetely a nice area and Sirrocco is still on the list of my favourite places in BKK.

Some great asset on the naughty's side also with floor to ceiling mirrors and top view from the balcony. Once actually almost got killed while standing on top of the aircon out on the balcony around the 60th floor and pumping away in some bird's mouth. I was way drunk and as she pushed me away when I started coming on her face, I lost balance and fell off the aircon... luckily - for me at least - I fell on the safe side of the ledge but that's definetely one of the most memorable BJ I ever got to enjoy...

So you might give Lebua a try...

Promised to report on my stay, so here it is.

Up side:

Nice, spacious room and bath. Liked the bathroom dividing the bedroom from the living area.

Good, well stocked kitchenette facilities, although never got to use it.

Great breakfast buffet, possibly the best I've seen so far in terms of choice/quality (and I've stayed at several 5-star places), although pretty crowded with touristy folk (ie, lots of shorts, sandles and noisy kids). Still not a bad experience if you find a good table.

Pool looked good, never got around to trying it. Same for the restaurants.

The Sirocco skybar is definitely worth a visit, especially with your GF. You get two complimentary cocktail vouchers. Although I wouldn't choose to stay just for this.

Down-side:

The location. It sucks! The walk to the BTS is terrible, especially late at night. The hotel shuttle is useful, but takes a very circuitous route and the wait for it adds 10-15 minutes to each trip. Much prefer to be on Suk or nearer a BTS station.

Overall quality: The place is impressive and generally clean, but quality and service definitely not 5 star level. However, worth the price differential. Has great views of the river, but unfortunately the little balconies outside each room are locked (apparently someone jumped/fell/was pushed off!), so you have to enjoy it from behind the window pane.

Girl friendliness: Was asked room number by staff in elevator lobby when escorting them in, but not harassed further. Had booked double and was given extra key card for her, so I guess they allow one extra person without questions.

Conclusion:

Would not stay again unless better choices unavailable, although did not regret the stay at all. Just didn't have any 'come back' appeal for me, so not worth the hassle of the less-than-convenient location. I would say worth a shot if you haven't tried it, but YMMV.

Leaving for BKK end of March- tired of JW Marriott and Sheraton Grande so am trying Plaza Athenee for first time- but now another 5 star??? The Lebua is near Robinson behind Shangri-la(my favorite) -- it is above an office tower- TRIP ADVISOR with 250 reviews rates it the third best in Bkk-- has anyone stayed there-???everyone says to go to 63rd floor for a drink and view of river- everyone says dinner is over $100 pp and to forget- but what gets me crazy is that many people say you cant go out on room terraces - on the web sight it shows 2 people on terrace with champaign looking at river- any reviews from the trusted BKKtonite punters?? This is for time TGF is there- and not when I have to reach Nana or Soi Cowboy in minutes---

I stayed there two weeks ago. It seems I can always tell when a place is run by Thai mangement. This place has potential to be top quality,BUT...

The room layout is nice, but they went very cheap on the furnishings looks like furniture from INDEX. The bed and linens were top notch, but the rest cheap.

The doors were very cheap. With no automatic closers. That meant various loud door slamming by guests and cleaning staff plus you could hear everything in the room next to you if you had a connecting door.

You are able to get the balcony door unlocked by signing a two page waiver.

Lastly about the rooms, the most horrefic price for room service drings and mini bar drinks. The room service food is quite reasonable at around 250 THB per dish, but I order 3 bottles of tonic water and the bill was 897 THB. During one night of partying we raided the mini bar. Not wanting to meet the forcasted Thai GNP myself, we had the TG's go out to 7-11 to restock the next day.

The place seems the reverse of most 5-star resorts where the restaurants for them are the primary focus and the hotel rooms coming secondary.

Forget going to Sirocco to eat, not that great in the food category, plus a constant track of people going to and from the elevator gawking over your table to see what you are eating.

Hit Breeze instead (52 Floor) Food is excellent, similar views. Just bring your own wine, Opus One there costs 58,000 THB. After dinner you can head up to the Sky Bar for a drink.

I stayed at the new wing in the Shangri-La across the way. Much better rooms.

A lot of Hi-So Thai staying at Le Bua. My recommendation would be staying at the Shangri-La and eating at State Tower.

I guess they have to, if they've had one too many guests like latenight staying there, and dropping off the wrong side of the balcony..

Seems like alcohol is a good explanation for many of the farang dives being reported - lucky for latenight, he fell on the safe side.

Anyone know if there's been such 'accidents' at Lebua before? What's the death toll?

Thaid-up-- damn I new this board knew all- sees all and tells all. ( Sorry BK- I spelled hotel wrong in search- didnt come up and started new thread) ---Since there is nothing about the Shangri-la I dont like-- you have the answer- ill go to Bar and dinner with Beer (i like their price for Opus- sort of rolls off the tongue). Read so many of the reviews on TripAdvisor- and many talked about cheap furniture- but only the great BKKtonite mongers point out my most hated error- cheap doors!!!If im to be wakened in the night it better be my TGF's snoring and not my neighbors voices or doors slaming! Thanks guys!
