Hi all, my first post. Been reading this forum for quite a while and find it of great use. Didn't see a review of this hotel, so thought of starting one.
I booked the hotel very lastminute via priceline UK (I am Dutch), did pay a bit too much (40GBP), but just wanted to get a hotel. Of course I was hoping to get the Marriott, but being new to the priceline system (and ofcourse to lazy to read the instructions), I ended up in the Intercontinental. I arrived four days ago. The hotel is situated almost next to the Chit Lom BTS station, so pretty good location.
The rooms are (for my standards) very nice and spacious. There is in-room internet (HIspeed) offered for 300 BHT an hour or 600 BHT for 24 hrs (pretty steep!!). The speed and reliability of the connection is great. (download speeds 50 kbps) The rooftop swimming pool is quite nice, only a bit small. All prices (breakfast/laundry etc.) are very steep for Thai standards, but that is probably normal in 5* hotels.
I am not sure about the official joiner policy, but took a different girl every night for the last 3 days and no one of the staff even looked at us, when walking to the elevators. So no ID checks, maybe if you ask they will do that for you (safety wise).
By email I did ask about their joiner policy and they said that if I'd book a double room then my "friend" could register later on at the reception. When I stated that I was thinking of bringing a different girl every once in a while (and sometimes I would stay alone), they said I then should book a single room and if I would take a guest pay an extra 1500 BHT. That's probably the official policy.
Anyway checking out tomorrow and moving to the Marriott (got lucky on priceline), for the last 5 days of my stay.

Can you explain what you did wrong on Priceline that got you into the Intercontinental instead of the JW Marriott?
The Internet prices you quoted are outrageous. Most Internet Cafes charge between 60-90 baht per hour. Do you think 50 kbps is fast? That is considered primitive in the USA.

Sorry downloadspeed should be 50 kBps. And I think thats rather fast. But its VERY expensive. Just to get my moneys worth I downloaded a few 100 megs from KAZAA
On priceline I first tried to bid for a 5* hotel in the Sukh area, and when that didn't got me a room I added the Siam square area. What I probably should have done is changing the dates (no problem for me to change hotels now and then). Or I should have added the Silom area, because the Shangri La is a lot more expensive so you sort of get a free rebid on the Sukh area.

OK. In the US it is always stated as kbps (bits) so with an 8 bit byte, I assume that is about 400 kbps?

Yep, in Holland I have a 512 kbps connection but I rarely see a downloadspeed of 50 kilobytes per second

48-50 kbps is what you get on a dial up connection and a direct line (not going through a switch board). It's the fastest you get get with a 56k modem.
Download speed is not the same as connection speed.
Connection speed is 50kbps - download is about 5.3 kbs, upload is about 2.8-3 kbps. In Holland 512kbps conection means around 50kbps download.
So, if you saw 50kbps on the Windows dialog, they are probably on a 512kbps (A) DSL connection. Hence the price....
Some countries have Mbits (like Holland) as standard.
8192 means actually 1024 kbytespersecond.
The fastest DSL you can get in Thailand now is 1024/512kbps.
In Holland it's mostly sold as 8192/1024 or 8192/512.
