I asked three different birds from three different bars on Soi Cowboy last night if the bar would be open this weekend. All three of them gave me a look like I was speaking greek - none of them had a clue about the possibility that any bars would be closed this weekend.
Not really an issue for me, I won't be in BKK this weekend anyway.

The letter is a "cover my ass" attempt and will only be enforced by those who are out of favor. Qbar, The Tunnel beware, but the majority of clubs will be fine. To put things into perspective, everywhere was open on the King's birthday and that is the biggest day of the year. No need to worry it is business as usual.

as per my information you are wrong, somnomna. the first law that they changed after the coup was that people should celebrate HM The Kings Birthday.
general election was always strict. thonglor and lumpini especially will be booze free.
my bet is that patpong/suriwong might serve in plastic cups or coffee mugs.
however, I am gladly proven wrong.

I am doing some consulting work for Forte in RCA. I attended a meeting last evening which was for all employees about the upcoming elections. They were infomred that they would be open for business as usual and all employees would face serious fines if they do not show up. Typical since many of them probably already had plans to do something else. They made no mention of plastic cups or anything of that nature. One employee asked why they were open and not closed like all other times and the GM responded that the decision was theirs to make.

was at Caribbean last night and inquired within. They will be open as well, but no alcohol sales. from Friday - Sunday.
Most of the Hotel bars and stuff should still be going or other areas where foreign tourist tend to be.

I know applying logic to Thailand never works, but I will give it a shot. Do you think some member clubs are exempt because technically you are not buying the liquor you are only drinking the liquor you already purchased? The letter says the sale of alcohol is prohibited but not the consumption of alcohol.
I guess this is why I am doing some consulting work for Forte. If he thinks that he will not lose a boatload of money by opening his doors and not bringing in any revenue than I will have my work cut out for me.
