I can't remember where I was one night but I think we strolled into a Japanese section. Lots of karoke bars. Anyway we came across a decent looking bar and decided to check it out. It was your typical bar. Girls outside nothing special. Only thing was there were a lot of Japanese men there and we weren't. As we went to go in the girl told us member club. Her english was poor and her Japanese wasn't much better. I really wasn't pressed on going in but she went and got some guy. He explained to me in Japanese that it was a members only club just for Ni hon go (Japanese people). So we were on our way. That brings me to my question. Does anyone have any experience with these members clubs? Would you recommend them to travelers? I know certain ones cater to certain people like the one I found, but generally are memberships open to farlangs?? Help me out bros.

entirely depending on the establishments. there are a lot of g-clubs like forte, orbit, exotoca, piano, pegasus which are open to everybody and some especially in soi thanyia on silom which only do cater to japanese or korean people.
i tend to avoid the mainly korean and japanese places as they 1. are by way overcharging (japanese prices) and 2. are toomuch japanese style anyway.
IMHO better value in the open g-clubs!

The only place I think that you really get your moneys worth for a membership is Pegasus.
This is because, unless you go with a someone that is a member, taking a female out can get really expensive compared to a members price. I believe that break down is either 40% -50% less for members.
And .. that is a full member and not some one that has a guest card. they have two types of cards. A member can give another person a guest card, which debts off his account. But..... that guest card does not get as much off as a full members card.
Does that make sense??
I am sure BK can explain it better then I can. Sorry!! ha ha ha!!
But .... it is only worth it to get a membership if you plan on going back to Pegasus regularly over a year. I believe the starting membership is 40,000 baht.
As for Piano, I did not think that there was any entrance charge. But ..... I've not been there within the last 8 months, so maybe they instituted one. If you are going to stay there a long time, then a bottle is good. If not, then just buy a couple beers.
And .. if you don't see anything at Piano, then walk right next door and visit Chateau Blanc. they have some very attractive females and a great singer. Unless she has moved to another place, their singer used to sing at the Amari Atruim. She sings really well and is very friendly. Okay. Not that friendly where I asked her out or anything, but she will sing any song!! ha ha ha!!

For Pegasus, Membership start at 30000 baht for one year membership. (This included combination of PR time and bottles of Johnny black)
For Piano, Forte and Orbit start at 20000 baht for one year.(This also, included combination of PR time and bottles of Johnny black)
You can often get more bottle or more perk if you negotiated with your membership sales rep. For example, I was able to extend my Piano membership to 3 years with no additional charge.
As for chateau blanc, exotica and violin, I think similar pricing apply

Just wanted to add to what Juniper already correctly said. Please correct me though if I'm wrong, cos this is my understanding and so I've been told.
One year membership at most of the clubs I know means that you get a certain amount of bottles of scotch/tequila/voBKa/bourbon/etc - your choice. If you finish them before one year you gotta renew your membership. My friends and myself consider ourselves lucky if we can drag a membership for more than a month.

That is correct. Membership is in fact the lifetime of the bottles of liquor. That's all a membership anywhere is. It's selling liquor for XXXX price.

But there's also usually a time limit. If you don't use your bottles within eg a year, you lose them.
Piano also offers a type of membership where give you some bottles but they also give you a credit balance from which they deduct any additional charges such lady drinks, cocktails, additional bottles etc
