That seems to be indeed the case. And don’t forget to bring your passport (or at least a copy) with integration stamp.
From my experience, any instant test is bound to be quite unreliable, and would not hold up in court in the western world.

The most likely scenario is that the first test is just a screening test to check if there are any substances in your system. I still find it hard to believe that it tests for all drugs in one go as the chemical compositions are so vastly different. If you fail this (and arent an influential Thai) then you would have to submit to a proper medical test by a doctor, the outcome of which would be the evidence in any subsequent court case.
This was the general procedure the British police were looking at for use in testing suspected drug drivers and is similar to the breathalyser test for alcohol where the roadside test is for screening purposes only and is not admissable as evidence in court. The problem was the screening test and how to detect the many types of drugs. They decided against it and some areas are trialling the very scientific touch your finger to your nose test.
However TIT and the burden of proof etc is different than the UK, so who knows.

The normal procedure is a "you're coming with me" if you don't pass the urine test, followed by a blood test with 2 samples. However, this therefore opens a gap with the ability to get out prior to the blood test, with some fast work.
Once it gets to a blood test, if you are a farang I would say watch out! You will be probably finding it very difficult to get out of it after this.
And spare us the civil liberties, you wouldn't encounter this in your own country etc etc rubbish. Laws are made country by country and the laws here can be bent, broken and all manner of things, but if the police are feeling like they want to nail someone, foreigners don't have important parents, don't upset anyone and are an easy soft target. When in Rome indeed.
The instant test is prima facie evidence, and while it might not hold up in court, being argumentative and the police have been known to "ahem" find things on people, go and investigate where you live and or course if you are actually on something it will show up in the blood test. I can't think of any case that I know of that someone was actually locked up on the urine test alone, but for Thais it has probably happened.

We ended up at Models Night at bed last night.
Luckily my bottle granted our party free entrance, because it was a horrific night.
Throughout my earthly existence, I have never seen so many pretentious f***wits accumulated in one room. Models Night apparently meant that everybody THOUGHT he/she was a model. I mean, how many 80’s caps (the ones with the fishnet cover in the back) can one grown man take in one evening?
The amount of female talent was truly and utterly disappointing. Most of the female attendance consisted of typical oversized and under tanned white trash. A large percentage of them dressed in cloth (I refuse to call in clothing) that was a vile violation against anything that was even loosely connected to that thing called fashion.
It reminded me a lot of my time in New Zeeland, were oversized woman tend to wear under-sized clothing. Their apparent ignorance about their own obesity results in layer upon layer of overflowing blubber. Imagine a 90 kilo woman in a jeans with 26 waist and you see were I am coming from. It probably took 4 hours to crunch each leg in the pants.
This is Bangkok for Christ sake; don’t these monstrosities have any self respect? Or that thing called shame?
I am at a loss for words for the amounts of worthless shit the DJ’s (?) were piling up last night. To my knowledge, it was without precedence in the known universe. My 86-year old, dribbling, dement grandmother could have done a better job – and she wouldn’t hear a nuclear explosion if it happened under her wheelchair. These 2 guys must have been the most incompetent turntable pricks ever to set foot behind the decks. Mind you, CD-decks that is, they didn’t touch vinyl all night.
I kid you not, in 10 minutes, WITHOUT transitions in between the records, they went from abominable house to atrocious hip hop to horrendous electro to hideous anthem trance. Without transitions!! c***s (I refuse to refer to them as DJ’s) who have the audacity to stuff like that deserve a bullet to the head. No chance for pardon. Ever. As you might have gathered by now, I have nothing but contempt for DJ’s who don’t look and respond to their crowd.
And I am/was not even in a bad mood.

BTW went to Synbar - on your recommendation - something between Club 87 and Diplomat (without the customers) but at the end of the day it is just another hotel bar. (Thought the comparison to km5 was a little insulting).
Not a bad place to take a client for a pre or post dinner drink.
Wouldnt mind a couple of those chairs in my place though.

I was more comparing Hu'U to km5, not Synbar. Without the Arabian theme, the tents in the garden, the coke on the side tables and the little dance floor inside.
Ach, f***, you are right. I will never commit blasphemy again and compare Bangkok with Ibiza. I guess I just miss the White Isle.

Dont get me wrong.
I always appreciate being told about new places I havent been to before.
I wish there were more people that contributed this sort of info on this forum.
(BTW I dont know if you remember the 'Hilton' before it turned into the Nai Lert Park, but they certainly havent done much of a renovation job. Synbar is the best part of the renovation.)

What bit don't you believe?
That it is a test for a variety of drugs, not just amphetamines. So I am asking does anyone know catagorically what it tests for, rather than just hearing off a mate, or some guy in a bar. It was discussed on sticks site a few weeks ago and he was under the
imporession the it was not a comprehensive test for all illegals under the sun and was just a test for amphetamines.

They test for more than that. Thailand used to import both the solution and the immunocromatographic test kits in the past.
Since a couple of years ago, with the help of Mahidol University Thailand came up with its own kit. And it does test for more things than amphetamines.
