When I am driving the family between Pattaya and near Udorn, I hear the phrase "pi-pi" quite often.

I am usually asked to stop at rest stops shortly after this phrase is used.

Can anybody explain what this means?

Chuckie you need to stop giving the family the case ration of Chang large bottles before each road trip.

Well seajohn I did check my intial thoughts with my wife,, BORN Thai, University educated and obviously far superior with the language in question than you are. A double check was put through my Mother-in-law 64 years of Thai and Laos spoken everyday... It may well be the spelling I used that is "IN YOUR opinion" incorrect.

You see, you do think language is a matter of opinion. You can't learn. We are not even talking about spelling--we are talking about pronunciation.

I am sure your mother in law and wife know exactly what they're talking about. I am also sure that you don't have any idea what they're talking about.

As for my posts, you have a habit of reading what I post and then commenting on it out of context in order to defend your position, which was wrong in the first place.

It is NOT, NOT a spelling mistake you made. Can't you even read your own post? You came right out and said that the word ghost in Thai is pronounced with a vowel like the English word pack.

The fact is, that is wrong. I don't care how you spell anything. That vowel, that phoneme, is wrong. Maybe you heard your Thai family incorrectly or didn't take time to check. I am sure they know how to correctly pronounce the word and that that is not it. However, due to the enormous amount of communication problems you display on this Forum, I doubt if they would be able to communicate it to you effectively enough for you to put it down here correctly... though I am sure that in their good hearts they have tried... as we all have with you.

Why can't you just admit you were wrong? It's such a small point.

I don't want you to stop posting. For what it's worth, I want you to learn the language of half your family, the people you care about (as long as we're in this thread). I think it would enrich anyone's life. I think it's great if anyone puts in their input about language here. That's how people learn, through trying. But when they are shown to be incorrect about some point, they should admit it and try to develop further. Not make up idiotic excuses and try to defend themselves at all costs... as you do in every single thread you post in.

You're right, I have been very blind. Reactionary. Jingoist, even. I tried to be encouraging in a few places in my last posts, but I didn't even see how absurd and stuffy that was either!

It's clear to me now that I have stumbled into one of those infamous Australian 'wind ups'.

Mel, you've done it again. Incredible. I must seem like such a naive nincompoop how I had begun to think you were serious in how you would say one thing and then say you said another or ignored what you previously said, just to win something for revenge or for winning's sake... just like the government in that novel 1984 by G.Orwell... something no one would ever want to emulate... And so unlike your old down-to-earth postings of about a year ago... How could I not see you weren't serious? I'm the blind one here, obviously.

Well, that goes to show you... jingjo... I certainly ain't perfect!! Pardon me for writing so strongly to you earlier, if you can. I'm just one of the wankers here, probably! Out of step. I was trying to involve myself in critical discourse when I should have been laughing my head off.

Well, enjoy. I'll owe you one.

I blame it on that Friggen French Priest,, he managed to translate all the Vietnamese into English text and using tonal indicators above the vowels,, lazy prick should have continued his work in Thailand

seajohn,, thanks for your kind and nonsensical words,,,quote"You see, you do think language is a matter of opinion. You can't learn. We are not even talking about spelling--we are talking about pronunciation.

AHHH so you can HEAR the sound of what I am trying to convey with my spelling,,, truly a magician,, maybe just as unique as your inabiliuty to smell the stench that existed ( yes past tense) in SOL.

Quote from seajohn "Why can't you just admit you were wrong? It's such a small point.

I ask the same question of you,, why can you not admit that SOL stank on the night that it was talked about,, why have you and your SOL lover brothers hunted me ever since I wrote that FACT?

Quote from seajohn "Not make up idiotic excuses and try to defend themselves at all costs... as you do in every single thread you post in. "
I have checked 400 of the threads so far and cannot find reference to this pathetic attempt at painting me as an idiot excuse maker.

Cut to the chase seajohn,, you and your SOL tag team have created a very uncomfortable situation in this forum for me because I was willing to state facts that you are not comfortable with.

I will not go silently into the night.

Mel.
