PaulThomas,,, THE price is not 2,500BHT the price YOU paid was 2,500BHT. If customers stuck to the 1,800BHT then that is what the going rate would be.
As long as people allow the price increases by NOT doing what Kingfisher was smart enough to do then price may well be 4,000BHT soon!!!!

By the way before you nice local regular guys get all hot under the collar because of us overgenerous overpaid farangs, let me make it clear, I DID NOT pay 2500 baht. That's what the rate was quoted to me. I did not argue about it either, just walked out.. But I thought I would mention it on the forum because that's what seemed to be quoted to others also, at least when I was there..
Anyway, I am not sure what is being overgenerous. I had been to Darlings, Subway, Akane, these girls are putting their all into it - at least it seems like it to me, they are genuinely nice not faking it. For farangs like me who have not EVER got such treatment in their life from anyone ever, can you blame us if we lose our head, and loosen our purse-strings a wee-bit? For us, 500 Baht more on a tip on a Trip to Thailand that happens once in several years is nothing earth-shaking, and the kind of service these girls give is something extra-ordinary for newbie farangs like me..
One way to avoid "spoiling the rates for locals and regulars" would be, to keep "farangs off the premises" at some places so rates can be for locals only here..
Anyway, thanks to all the forum members for their advice I found here - it was invaluable and helped me have a GREAT time on my first trip to Bangkok!!

You have it right.
You bargain the papasan down to 1800-2000.
Then after the session you can tip the girl anything you want....500, 1000, 2000... etc.

Took a trip here last week for the first time (first time to Cupidy not first time to Soapy). Walked in, sat down and began the selection search. Papa-san comes over, I order a beer and relax a bit. Select a girl, walk over to pay….
Me: How much?
Papa: You been here before?
Me: No
Papa: 4000 baht
Me: Bye-Bye
I turned and walked away. Papa-san keeps calling me and walking after me – “How much you pay, how much you pay?”. Just as I got to the door I told him, yes this is my first time here, but not my first day in Bangkok. You are trying to rob me with those prices, and I do not want to do business with someone who wants to rob people.
I understand attempting to get the most out of people but 4,000 baht – WTF.

Actually they are just trying to deter you from patronizing the establishment, as most locals wouldn't stand for it. And it's not robbery, because when you pay the farang rate, it's with your consent.

If they want to deter farang from patronizing why not have all the signs and such in Thai only, and refuse to speak English to people who come in?
As you noticed I did not stand for it – I walked out.
Really not a problem for me as my baht spends just as easily at other establishments (ie Nataree, Poseidon, etc), where I might pay a farang surcharge, but the price is still well below the 4,000 baht Papa-san asked because he thought I was new to the whole scene. And as we can see from other postings on this board 4,000 baht is well above the standard farang rate at this establishment as well. So IMHO the papa-san was attempting to basically rob what he thought was going to be an easy mark – but like I said my baht spends just as easy at other places.

Not all places deter in the same way. Why not just drug all falangs coming in and dumping them out in the back alley?
It's basically a you're not preferred, but you're welcome to play here if you're stupid enough or don't care about the slightly higher prices. The don't care/stupid bar will obviously vary from cheer guest to cheer guest and establishment to establishment.

Packripper, have you ever been there? It is a farang joint...most of the customers are farang not thai. They are just out to scam the patrons and that is there stigma. Don't argue that is the farang price or that it is a deterant...the papason is just trying to scam and make some extra money. Very poor management.
