Newbie here with a similar dilemma.

what can I get in pattaya that I won't be able to get in those 2 locales? is the quality of the female talent any better in pattaya in comparison?

thanks for any info.

Comparisons are tough as what may seem a beauty for U will be average for others.
The only similarity between Patong and Pattaya is they both have a beach.
Patong more upscale cause its geared toward people with more money or at least people more willing to spend their money (true tourist and vacationers, families, couples on honeymoons etc.) but U will almost never find guys bringing their families or honeymooning in Pattaya---this should be your 1st hint;
therefore, Pattaya for a true monger/punter and Phuket for more relaxed vacation with the beach 1st and mongering as an afterthought.

Thanks for your replies. I've booked for 4 nights in BKK & 4 nights at Patong Beach. Can't wait! :D

Well, all I can say is, Phuket, way too many tourists, all the girls are looking for a quick ST buck, easy LD, cold, cold, cold, no GFE that I could see, the only upside is that the action keeps going until early in the morning and many beauties. But no thanks, once was enough, never again. Bye bye.

I'm not sure if I'm in the right thread, but I'm looking for advice on a guest friendly hotel in the 3-5K baht range in Patong, late January, walking distance to Soi Bangla.

The info is for a newbie. I enjoyed the Ban Thai recently, and can recommend that place, but my experience in Phuket is extremely limited.

Thanks in advance for comparable alternatives.

US Virgin,

the bungalows on the roof of "Baan Lai Mai" are very nice at about 3000baht a night...in the middle of everything...great view....

I lived and worked in Phuket for a few years and will say that Kata Noi is the best beach in Phuket.....rent a jeep....if you plan to venture off of patong you will save money........

enjoy,
atl

usvirgin,

There is a nice hotel right on the beach right across the street from the Patong Villa & a block away from Bangla. It's a little more pricy than the PV but the rooms are nicer & it's right on the beach. I wish I could remember the name of the place, maybe someone here knows the place I'm talking about. Sorry about the vague post.

Patong Bay Garden Resort.

I used to stay there a few years ago but was'nt too happy with my choice. I had a "Taweewong Road" view but all I could looked at was a bunch of electric wires. Not that I matter about it too much but found the Patong Villa much more convenient and guest friendly.

Will check in there next december 23 again for 2 weeks ! Hell, I can't wait to be back in heaven.

Yep,
The more you pay in Phuket the less guest friendly the hotels tend to be.
If your mate wants to monger then he needs to stay at a mongers hotel.
3-5k a night puts you in the four star family type hotel like the Merlin.
Tell him to stay at Drunkentiger's Patong Villa and take two rooms if he needs to spend that much.

The Patong Villa is definitely guest friendly & very reasonably priced. The security guards never even stopped me & my TG when we walked through the gauntlet. (I call it the gauntlet because you have to walk through an alleyway filled w/Indian clothing vendors that harass you to buy something everytime they see you, which got annoying)

The rooms weren't all that & 2 of our AC's broke down during our stay however. There are no in room safes either, so any valuables you have to store at the reception desk in the safety deposit box, which is way too small to accomodate any laptop computers or dvd players, etc. Also, this place uses the old fashioned keys in the slot to activate all the electrical outlets in the room & turn on the lights, so if you want to keep your AC running all day, 1 way around it is to leave the plastic key fob inserted in the slot & only taking the key with you when you leave the room. Just make sure to put the "Do Not Disturb" sign on your door so the housemaids don't find out. :p

The hotel wasn't overly crowded which was a positive. Can't stand having families w/children splashing around in the pool during early afternoon hours when I'm usually trying to recover from the night before. :p

overall I had a lukewarm impression of the place, but if you do choose this place I would recommend you book the bungalow rooms because you get your own entrance & the sliding glass doors open up to the poolside, so you can party late at night at the pool which was pretty cool (as long as you don't make too much of a ruckus).

1 other warning, there's a front desk worker there that is extremely rude & confrontational. I remember booking a double occupancy deluxe bungalow w/breakfast for 2, & she gave me attitude when I complained about them trying to charge my TG for breakfast 1 day, saying that I had to have checked in together for the breakfast coupon to be valid for 2 instead of 1. I had the same TG staying with me over the span of 3 days coming & going by herself too, but they still gave me a hassle over it.

Thanks for the advice, guys. All these hotels look quite suitable.

ATL: The Baan Laimai looks an awful lot like the BanThai, where I last stayed, maybe nicer, and just a block away. Their website and booking form look very similar too. Same owners?

DT: Do you think the hotel you had in mind was the Patong Bay Garden, as mentioned by Asianatic? I found another nearby hotel on the internet called the Thara Patong - that's why I'm asking.

SS: Yeah, I'm aware of the relationship between price and guest friendliness in Phuket- that's why I raised the question. My friend wants the best of both worlds, bargirls and drinkiepoos with her at the bar in the swimming pool at a resort.

Well, I've got something to work with now so, thanks again everyone.
