Have to agree with Singhabeer on this one.
I was also in Tiger and Taipan discos and both were well patronaged with a large number of ladies present.
Far from empty.
Also, many people were here for songkran on Tuesday. Numbers were slightly down on last year but Patong is hardly what you would call a ghost town.
If you like Phuket then you should come to Phuket - I doubt that you would notice much difference.

(a) ghosts are a thai believe..... (note zillions of bar girls spilit)........................... (B)..The potential for another wave is real... (unlike the yea tommorrow L.A fault line.go ask a scientist)... (c) I see its f***ing hot as in 39 degrees or (103 ) The seafood is likely to possibly contain human... (d) I saw a dvd of that wave hit...it shocked the arse of me..i mean they were just all there one minute (1000 people) gone next.. No f***ing way.

I agree with DG and his assessment regarding the very large and recent series of earthquakes off Indonesia. That seem to be continuing.
When I'm on vacation I don't want to have in the back of my mind that at anytime a disaster can hit. I understand it can happen any time or place but with Phuket it's all to recent.
Asianatic with that said go spend that 3K and enjoy yourself.  Cheap Charley hate to see 3K go to waste.

Asianatic, don’t worry about the cost of the flight, from just under1400thb return through Asia Air. I’m over next month and am doing both. Best of both worlds, and I think the odds are in favour of me getting run over on second road rather than caught in a second Tsunami

There should be no direct competion between Pattaya and Phuket. Let's face it Pattaya is the Asian sex capital...everything you can imagine is all there. Pattaya is also a cheap place for retirement... they are building thousands of villas on the other side of the highway.
Phuket is a really beautiful island with marvelous beachs. Its just also happens to have a beach town called Patong which also has quite an assortment of beer bars and discos.
Phuket is probably the most expensive place to live in Thailand...but of course still a lot cheaper than Europe.
The reason to go to Phuket is for the island' s beauty...not simply the beauty of the Thai ladies that you may encounter...although I guess that there are quite a few of
those also. Nowadays we seldom visit Patong as if its not just bar girls you are interested in, there is lots of talent all around the island...actually starting at the airport!Take alook at some of the hotel greeters.
We started visiting Pattaya in the early 1970's and then moved our base south around 1986 in order to get some peace and quiet.

When considering the relative merits of holidaying in Phuket or Pattaya, I have never been to Pattaya and it doesn't particularly appeal to me for some reason.
But Nokna hit the nail right on the head. In the past 2/3 years, Phuket has suffered the SARS, Asian bird flu and now the Tsunami. They have just had one thing after another and anybody who is considering going there, should do so. Not only would they get a nice warm glow from the knowledge that they're helping a local economy on its knees, but also they would be treated royally by the locals. So do Phuket this year and Pattaya next year if you must.

And wear the flipper t-shirt..."'dont eat the shimp"'...drink more when doing p4p....and watch out for fines, waves, and the insurgents perhasp eyeing a tourist spot closer to their south...bring more money....and try staying cool beause its a f***ing hot place (as in april,may june) than pattaya...but granted prettier....Though same cant now be said for the girls.....Try telling a ghost story if you want rid of bar girl that will leech on to you big time.
