I stayed at both the Hotel and the resort and both seems pretty good. The resort is more quiet and relaxed and the food is better (IMHO). The hotel is good if you are into the night life since it is within 5 minutes walking distance of the Bangla walking street. I was quoted 1,800baht/night in a superior room at the resort and 900baht/night at the hotel. It's still a good deal since a ST room near Bangla will set you back 500baht just for a ST.

The only downside for staying at the C&N are the intenet access, I have to use an outside internet service called WIFI island to get internet access on my computer. There are alot of internet cafes nearby, however they are only open at NORMAL times. If you need to have internet access when you want it or need to e-mail any photos then it is harder to do. The WIFI island gig costs 1,000baht for 10 hours of WIFI access, and so far the quality is so so. Only operational when they feel up to it. Which means it is down 35% of the time.

I take it back, the WiFi island service is only UP 35% of the time. I am having a hard time trying to use my 10 hours of service since it is down most of the time. The times I am able to get online I have to log in 10 or more times since it keeps logging me out. Anyone know of a DEPENDABLE WIFI provider in Phuket or anywhere in Thailand?

Just booked the "resort and spa" for Jan 2007 for 17 nights and got a price of 1500 baht p/night for a standard room, was quoted the same price for hotel.
I will barter when I get there and see if they will throw us in a superior room for the same price.

IIRC the Internet store within the reception area of the C&N (hotel) is open long hours - are you talking about the resort?
Within Patong I found a good free access wifi signal from the hotel close to the Subway store on Beach Road, close to the bottom of Bangla. Can sit there for a couple of hours with an ice cream and surf, no problem, or sit on the floor anywhere along that arcade. Don't think it reaches the beach though... 8^ (
Quite a few wifi signals between the C&N (hotle) and the Paradise. One small hotel/cafe has open access avaialble for quite some distance or you can sit and browse and eat if you like bad food (unconnected fact, it's a gay hotel).
MTB bar in Soi Eric on Bangla provided wifi for free, but only during bar hours - the soi's power is switched off betwen about 3am to 8pm or so. Ask on http://www.phuket-info.com/forums for details.
In Pattaya I had a weak but useable free signal in one of the ocean-view rooms of the Sandy Spring hotel.
In Bangkok I have encountered free connections at:
1) the Landmark - you can sit in the bakery cafe or in the Lobby and connect.
2) The Marriott near Nana - may not be available any more but used to reach accross the road to the Starbucks.
3) Near Foodland, Soi 5 - could sit in the reception of the Amari and use it - don't think it was the Amari's netwrok though.
4) Good fast signal just outside that pub on Suk halfway between Nana and the Marriott. Doesn't reach across Suk to the (other) Starbucks opposite. Nowhere to really sit.

I see there's an 'off season' special at the C&N Resort at the mo (till 30 Oct '06). Go to the C&N website

and a special internet promotion page comes up with a coupla deals. I'm opting for the pay for 2 get 1 free at the Resort - works out to be 863 Bt per night - not bad. Includes the usual free pick up from the Airport (they really look after us well)
My next challenge is actually get someone to reply to my email at the C&N considering the posts here. Looks like some paitence is required

Booked successfully - I've since discovered the problem was not the Hotel itself but more likely their ISP - after sending an email most times I got an ISP message that I've translated too..."could not deliver...we're on Island time...remember!"
Upshot is this appeared to be no fault of the Hotel
I must admit their website is a little unwieldy and there's no mention of the Hotel on Asiarooms.com.
Never mind - done & dusted now
