I don't think so. IMHO love is a three part equation. Falling in love, being in love is easy for two people to do. Staying in love is the hard part. With a Asian women we run into the language and culture barrier and the disproportionate levels of economic wealth. For some of us the difference in ages plays a big part in all of this.
The essence of staying in love is communication, caring and when you can barely speak to your partner and your shared experiences are so limited along with the different way she thinks and reacts compared to the way women in your home country thinks. I'm surprised any marriage works long term.

When you live and work in Bangkok, you may not be so suprised. I know many happy long term marriages with happy children. Not every bloke spends his time whoring. Too many judge by their own standards....not a criticism, miind you...but a fact.
I can think of 8 long term farang / Thai marriages in the UK, the only marriage I have ever known that broke up was purely the fault of the guy, even he'd admiit that. She is now happily remarried.
Thai women are not so different, but Thai bar girls are.

Alrighty, I'll check in on this topic.
I have "fallen in love" with a girl I met in Nana disco. She is a Kasetsart uni grad who was working in an office during the day and freelancing at night. She has studied English intensively, and speaks, reads and writes it quite well.
After spending about 10 days together on my first visit to LOS, we kept in touch through emails and I returned to see her a month later. Since then I've been back two more times; of course, most frequent BTF readers are quite familiar with the saga of her recent visit to the UK with the Welchman.

After her return from Wales we spent three weeks together 24/7, and in about a week I'm going back to Thailand to stay indefinitely (with a 2 entry, 60 day tourist visa and an open return on my flight) so we can see if there's any real future for us.
I've been upcountry and met the whole family, and there is now some pressure to marry. There are no bargirls in her family... all her friends and young cousins back home are university students or grads. Unless I sneak around, no way can I get any stray p_ssy; she is not the sharing type.
She isn't working now, just taking some computer classes like graphic design and website creation, but she's expressed a desire to have a "regular" job at some point. I put 40K baht in a joint bank account almost 3 months ago and there is still about 30K there, which I consider a good sign. She has never asked me for a satang; everything I've ever given her (which isn't very much) has been my idea, and there's never been any hint of a sick buffalo, an accident-prone brother, or even a lost cellphone.
Clearly I will be expected to support her, but she is quite content with a modest lifestyle, and actually seems to be on the thrifty side when it comes to living expenses.
The story is far from over - anything could happen, and nothing would surprise me - but it seems that she really doesn't want to return to a life of prostitution, and would be extremely happy to settle down to a normal life with a farang who loves her and treats her well.
At this point it seems we are both "in love" and share quite a few common interests... then again I'm not fat, bald, drunk, poor, or 20 years her senior, so this rosy scenario should not be all that difficult to imagine.
Anyway, that's my story as of 22 Sept.
