Re the subject of the post - IMHO, know of a more than a few TGs who are definately "Bi" - I also think many BGs etc are emotionally unstable, so when they are drunk/high/broke, or had a bust-up with the latest boyfriend, they quickly find solace in a TG, who may just happen to have a long tongue ! - As soon as a new Farang comes along with a few $$, the temporary shift to lesbianism is usually forgotten

Guess I am in a rationalist thinking mode most days, because I have to agree with you all the way down the line. The post-op LB my buddy hung out with for a few months had her surgery done by one of the best in BKK and it hit all the right instinctual buttons for a straight male. Even more striking, was the doc that did the sex organ reconstruction did such a good job that she was able to cum -- it took a while for my buddy and her to figure out how she could do this consistently, but after that, it was smooth sailing and lots of good sex for both of them.
Most modern sexologists dispute the pointilistic view of gay or straight or bi, and instead prefer the continuum hypothesis. The current research shows sexual preference and gender identification to be clumped around nodes, but to have plenty of stats scattered in between.

I know of many TGs, who will spend time with a "Tom" - remember that by and large, these girls are very emmotionally insecure, so when they are drunk/broke/high or the Boyfriend has run off, the often seem to find solace in a fellow Thai, who may well be a female with a long tongue ! - Of course as soon as a prosperous new farang appears, this lesbian tendancy seems to quickly dissapear .... After my above diatribe on LB's and sexual continuums, I read Smeg's original post and MrJoe's insightful response. Smeg, if you haven't already, get a copy of the book, "Dear Uncle Go, Male Homosexuality In Thailand." It has a lot to say about the Tom/Dee phenomenon, and provides some additional details for MrJoe's POV. It also provides insight into the more nebulous sexuality of Thailand and the often transitory nature of sexual relations in different periods of a Thai person's life. A good read, and lots of amusing anecdotes too.
All in all, a good question Smeg, as the Thai take on sexuality is not the Western version (thank goodness).

I am perfectly OK with the 'continuum hypothesis' of human sexuality, but feel it is slightly beside the point here. Characteristically, HS has articulated the point at issue:

Which is quite intriguing given the supposed cultural factors in play. It appears that the local defenders of truth, justice, enlightenment and decency consist of an English man, an Indian man and a Thai woman.

Just as a quick side note... It might be good to consider that toms, in general, are often just as possesive (if not more so) of "their girls" than guys are. Often (not always) violently so. The tom is sometimes and even more insecure character than a dee. That insecurity is often overcompensated for with attempts at "masculine behaviour." I knew a tom who would take any photos of her girl with any guys in the background and burn them. She drove the dee around everywhere and would cock block any guy even trying to look/chat/socialize with "her girl." The tom and her date would walk out of any movie with a male/female love scene (so the dee wouldn't get any 'ideas').

I have a few things to say about some of the posts so far but only have a couple minutes so I will juts add to Packripper's because coincedentally I was telling someone the same thing not long ago.
It's long been apparent to me and indeed the common wisdom amongst TGs that I know, that Toms do indeed tend to be extremely possesive and often quite violent. Supporting this is the fairly common reports in the news of assaults and even murders by Toms against their Dee (often because she gets or has a guy).
Ironically, some Toms will initially be quite open to introducing TGs to guys in order to get close to the TG and just be thought of as a good "guy" amongst the girls. (Of course some continue to be that way and have no jealousy or insecurity.)
If I recall, Smegma has a freind who has come in handy in that respect. ;)

Yes MrJoe; and she is a very nice sweet tom -with a good heart. Probably not your typical tom -as if I knew so many  -well, maybe I know more than I should; but it seems that where there are many attractive women, toms seem to also be in higher concentrations
Mentioning my tom friend here reminds me of another thing. She/he has a new girlfriend -who happens to be married. Can it technically be considered that the husbands is being cuckolded? (it is just a rethorical question -my tom friend jokes a lot about it and finds amusing finding herself in this postion of "the other guy" ).
