Bangkok must share flooding, adviser tells PM
Sudarat Keyuraphan, in her capacity as an adviser to the government's Flood Relief Operation Centre
(FROC), said her plan calls for releasing floodwater from upstream provinces into Nakhon Nayok and Chachoengsao to the east of Bangkok, and allowing some areas of the city to be flooded.
"Bangkok has to accept part of the water in order to help reduce the burden," Sudarat said. She added that FROC chief Pracha Promnok has agreed to her idea and that she would later raise the matter with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.
She warned that the government's current plan of blocking the floodwater in upstream provinces would only help increase the water pressure. Any leak in the temporary flood walls could lead to severe flooding in Bangkok's central areas, including the Victory Monument, she said.
"The situation is critical and I think this is time for me to help," Sudarat said.
She denied that she was acting on someone's command. "I have not got been ordered by anyone, although I get advice from many sources. We now need to brainstorm to release the 10,000-plus million cubic metres of water into the sea as soon as possible. We can't allow the water to mass up and attack Bangkok," the banned politician said.
Sudarat is one of the 111 former executives of the disbanded Thai Rak Thai Party who have been banned from politics for five years after the party was dissolved by court order for electoral fraud.
Meanwhile, Kohlak Charoenruk, deputy chairman of the National Disaster Warning Committee, yesterday called on the prime minister to decide whether to allow floodwaters from upstream provinces to naturally pass Bangkok's Chao Phraya River and canals into the sea.

The Sai Mai, Bang Khen, Kannayao, Klong Samwa, Nong Chok, Min Buri, and Lat Krabang districts are at particular risk for flooding after the Klong Song, Klong Si, Klong Ha, and Klong Hok sluice gates were opened. Authorities predict the four subcanals will dump 1.2 billion cubic meters (42.4 billion cubic feet) of water into the Rangsit Canal, which is only capable of containing 400 million cubic meters (1.4 billion cubic feet) of water. Thus far, only 200 households in Sai Mai district have been instructed to evacuate, though authorities advised other area residents to move their belongings to higher ground. Officials predict water levels will rise gradually, so residents will likely receive 24-hours notice to evacuate should it become necessary.
The flooding could affect areas near the Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK). Airport officials have raised temporary dikes around the airport, so the facility itself is not projected to flood. Temporary flood barriers are also in place on surrounding roads in a bid to ensure access to the airport, but these barriers are much lower and are at greater risk for breaching. Flight disruptions are possible should area roads around the airport flood, making it difficult for passengers and airline crews to reach the facility.
Advice
Avoid nonessential travel to at-risk neighborhoods in northern and eastern Bangkok. Prepare for potential flooding as early as possible if operating in low-lying areas of Bangkok. Plan accordingly for transport disruptions in the capital and adjoining areas. Seek updated information on road conditions and allow extra driving time. Stockpile bottled water for consumption and hygienic purposes.

Thailand flooding: Parts of Bangkok 'to be hit':
Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said water would have to be allowed to flow through parts of Bangkok out to sea.

‘Bangkok May be Swamped’
The government earlier today warned residents living near Prapa canal, which runs from northern Bangkok to an area of the city near Victory Monument along an elevated train line, to be vigilant against floodwaters.
“If we can’t pump water out on time, there is a chance Bangkok may be swamped,” Pracha Promnog, head of the national flood center, said in a phone interview with Channel 3 today.
Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand’s main international airport, is operating normally and protected with a 3.5-meter barrier to prevent floods, Air Chief Marshal Sumet Phomanee, chairman of airport operator Airports of Thailand Pcl, said today by phone. In the worst-case scenario of the facility being flooded, airlines would be asked to relocate operations to the U-Tapao airport in the eastern province of Chonburi.
The situation is more “worrisome” near northern Bangkok’s Don Mueang airport, which is mostly used for domestic flights and where the government has set up operations to manage the floods, Sumet said. Residents in the area have parked cars on elevated highways and moved belongings to higher floors as waters threaten the district.
Dam Water Deluge
Rainfall about 25 percent more than the 30-year average filled upstream dams to their capacity, prompting authorities to release large amounts of water this month down a flood plain the size of Florida. The waters have affected 14,254 factories and businesses in 20 provinces, leaving 664,567 workers at risk of losing jobs, according to the Labor Ministry.
It will take about 40 days for the 12 billion cubic meters of water, enough to cover Connecticut a meter deep, to drain into the Gulf of Thailand, Irrigation Department spokesman Boonsanong Suchatpong said yesterday. The floods have swamped industrial estates north of the capital with as much as three meters of water.

So looks like there will be many cancelations for the high season in hotels bookings and flights.
Even if Suk/Silom wont flood, most probably the other areas flooding will affect life there, with regards to food supply, or even things such electricity and water ("clean" to use in showers).
Not a good time to visit now all the way to early next year, do you agree?

As of tonight still no flood in my area, but not a bottle of water to be found in any supermarket (I tried both Lotus and Big C), lots of things are running out also, like some type of food (canned fish with tomato sauce seem very popular...)
But the good news is that beer is still widely avalaible. LOL
Anyway, I got enought water to last for two weeks if need be, some food and even a cute 40kg TG so since I live on the 11th floor I dont really worry
