Quote: from DaffyDuck on 2:30 pm on Dec. 2, 2012 How difficult was installation into the car itself?
There are 2 parts required for the installation; the car model specific mounting bracket, and the device specific holder that attaches to the bracket with supplied screws. Once the bracket is installed, attaching the holder is a piece of cake. A screwdriver is all that is required. Since I already had a bracket in place (for an iPhone) all I had to do was remove the iPhone holder and replace it with the iPad holder. I imagine the difficulty of installing the mounting bracket differs by car model and mount location in the vehicle. For me, the bracket was basically a clip with one end inserted in the gap between a round air vent and the dash, and the other end inserted in the gap between the top of the car stereo and the center console. ProClip included a plastic wedge tool to pry the gaps to widen them so the bracket can be put into place without scratching or damaging the car interior.

Unless your planning on buying an older model, just get it directly from an Apple authorized store, or carrier like TRUE.

You mentioned that your pro clip mount doesn't work with the iPad mini in a case? Not even a very thin case? While I plan to have the iPad mini permanently installed, I would still prefer to keep it in a case. Do they have alternate mounts, or is the one you have very snug?

I expect they will have additional mini holders in the future like they do for other devices. This holder is very snug. No way it will accept a mini with a case no matter how thin. And like I said the holder will scratch the aluminum side of the mini when inserting or removing it. They have padded holders for the iPhone and you just slide the device in. Because the mini is so much smaller than the iPad they should have modeled the mini holders after the iPhone holder design instead of the iPad holder design.

Well, mine appears back ordered. I'll call them to see if they have some alternative holders for other platforms (like the kindle) that offer more flexibility. Haven't heard back from the dock stubs folks yet. Might need to call them.

Got the Pro-Clip. Took 10 minutes to install. It's a close to perfect mounting solution. Love it. Since mine's permanent, I'm less worried about the case, though it would be nice if it had at least supported the SmartCover. Bummer. Now, all that's left is to solve the charging issue. The dockstubz folks gt back to me about their more current version. They don't know, but will refund my purchase if it doesn't work. Time to try again.

Sai Tai, Figured out and fixed the charging situation - the Dockstubz were a dead-end, but the other device I bought (named "iPad Power Adapter for non Mac Computers") available here: http://www.cables.com/Products/iPad-PowerAdapter.aspx Did the trick - just plugs in-between the iPad dock cable and wherever you plug it in, and suddenly the iPad mini shows as 'charging' - and while charging slowly, it's now enough to leave it permanently plugged in. cables.com has it for $10, while if you Google for "pisen for iPad", you can find dozens of other vendors that all carry it, albeit for more. Give it a shot - should work for your DICE adapter as well.

Tablets gain more ground on PCs: Survey =============================== WASHINGTON (AFP) - One-third of computers sold worldwide in the fourth quarter of 2012 was a tablet, according to a survey released on Wednesday. The research firm Canalys said that with PCs and tablets combined, the market grew 12 per cent year-on-year in the last three months to reach 134 million units. With its iPads and other computers, Apple led the market with 27 million units, and a 20 per cent market share. That compared with 15 million for second-place Hewlett-Packard, which was just 200,000 units ahead of China-based Lenovo. Each had a share of 11 per cent.
