According to this source (that have done the math), http://www.dinside.no/php/art.php?id=778144 the price in Norway for an unlocked iPhone 3G including the cheapest 1 month contract would be:
8 gigabyte version 4189 NOK = 828 USD = 27450 THB
16 gigabyte version 5000 NOK = 989 USD = 32765 THB
Cool!

Which also happens to be, incidentally, close to the price snaps-park paid for his, if he had received the 8GB version -- though I'm sure his dealer is selling the phone to him at a loss, and making it up in volume... or something.

In all seriousness, this is pretty much in keeping with the prices for all the countries offering unlocked phones -- forgetting for a moment that you need to be a resident of said countries in order to buy the iPhone in that configuration.

Some thoughts on AAPL:

After watching AAPL recover for three hours this morning, I went long again, just as the Duck (strangely, I got most my shares at the same price as you). However, I'm not certain that the strength in AAPL's recovery today was due to AAPL, or just the broader market. Ever since the Fed announced their witch hunt on naked short selling last week, the market has been in the most dramatic short squeeze I've ever witnessed. Banks, home builders, airlines--all have rocketed upwards this past week, due largely to this short squeeze. With AAPL gapping over 10% lower this morning coupled with the strength in the broader market, AAPL's recovery could be the shorts closing their positions, rather than true buying positions being started. In a day when a stock like Las Vegas Sands opens 10% lower, yet closes 10% higher (20% swing), and United Airlines soars 40%, anything is possible. Additionally, the 3rd Quarter is always a bearish quarter for technology--every year. Then again, everything about the current stock market is so volatile and unpredictable, I could easily change my mind tomorrow. Today though, it seemed very safe to buy AAPL.

I still think the market has some severe issues to work out, despite the short squeeze of this past week. And keep in mind, AAPL is at 3 month lows, even through the 3G launch. What news from AAPL could be more enticing to own its shares than the $199 3G? For AAPL to be at 3-month lows with such strong tailwinds from the 3G excitement is a bit troubling in the short term. If the 3G can't launch AAPL above $175/share, what would? A cheaper Notebook? I'm not so sure.

Additionally, I'm a bit uneasy about the health of Jobs. There is no company on Earth more closely associated with its CEO than Jobs. Yesterday in the conference call, when Oppenheimer said it was a "private matter," AAPL dropped another $6/share instantaneously--and that was AFTER it had already lost $10/share.

The problem with calling it a "private matter," is that it is inconsistent with how AAPL handled Job's health in June. Just last month, they gave a specific, benign reason for his unhealthy appearance (common bacterial infection). Now, a month later, AAPL is suddenly unspecific and mum on the issue. Why the change in tone? This inconsistency is very mysterious. If it was truly a simple stomach bacteria, wouldn't they just confirm that Jobs is over it?

Secondly, when a CEO is as closely linked to the performance of its company as Jobs is, it simply isn't a "private matter." Unfortunately it is very public, as it would have drastic consequences on the value of the stock. Withholding such consequential information would be a breech in AAPL's public obligation to its shareholders.

Just some late night thoughts......

Withholding such consequential information would be a breech in AAPL's public obligation to its shareholders.
Precisely, so if there is nothing newsworthy going on, what should they say?

"Steve's health is in excellent shape, and there is nothing to worry about" -"Hmmm, that sounds just a tad too chipper, and too much like a prepared statement - what could they possibly be hiding? There must be some bad news they are not telling us.... Better sell all the shares!"

"Here's the succession plan we have in place" -"OMG, a succession plan!! They must know something terrible! Steve must be at death's door! This is the end, sell all my shares!!!"

"Steve's health is a private matter" -"OMG, they are totally denying the obvious. Clearly they are lying to us. Better sell the stock"

All the while, I'll be buying while idiots are selling

Seriously, ESPECIALLY with the irrational curiosity and attention hoisted on this issue, no matter what Apple says, it will be open for misinterpretation by idiots like Kramer, and his pals.... In such an atmosphere, best to just say absolutely nothing, and kill such inquiries with a "no comment" (i.e. "Steve's health is a private matter"), than feeding the paranoid FUD mongers with any other ammo...

That out of the way, the drop from the mid $170s to the low $150s was mostly due to the usual "AAPL is not playing by our rules" knee jerk reaction, as a reaction of AAPL guiding (conservatively) for lower margins, based on their announced product transition.

Oppenheimer, in essence, could have just kept quiet, and announced 'lower earnings', and be done with it, but he did specify that a 'product transition' can be expected, which any reasonable person would know is associated with both additional expenses (i.e. taking the hit on student back-to-school specials), as well as potentially pushing a high-margin product into the market that results in cannibalization of sales, or requires the reduction of other margins in order to accommodate the transition.

Just on a simple example, we have the iPod Touch, which is now priced oddly, with an iPhone costing *less* than the equivalent iPod Touch 16GB. I would assume that Apple is planning to do something about that, either with new price points for iPod Touch, or a new iPod Touch model to replace the existing two.

Nevertheless, Oppenheimer shaped his statements in a manner that implies a *new* product, based on new technologies -- so just a repackaged iPod Touch would not seem to qualify for a 'significant product transition', unless we will see the iPod Touch retired in favor of another product...

...which was of course missed altogether by the 'analysts'.

I'm done with the friggtard relay race in this thread. Back on Iggy, where friggtards belong.

Yay - and it's even nicer when they are obligingly predictable and save me a space in my ignore list... And it's almost entertaining how bloody predictable that friggtard CalEden is, in that respect.

Put him on Ignore, while he is online.
Wait 5-10 minutes.
Remove him from Ignore.
Witness having been placed on Ignore by his Friggtardness...

Man, victory would be much sweeter if it actually took more effort.

Back to our regular programming...

Without Job's creativity marketing genius, what would Apple do? And the stock?

Sometimes reality must be faced head on. Of course there are some who cannot and live in their own personnel Fantasyland. Additionally, emotions and investing in stocks do not mix well.

If Jobs goes so does Apple down the toilet. We seen what happened last time.

If I were Apple's service providers, I would be pissed off at the inept manufacturing and supply chain management skills.
