why is this further proof?? I was just asking you, the resident expert, about these links for unlocks
a) They, and similar 'offers' were discussed previously in the thread.

b) I managed to actually read the text at the other end of said links. Apparently, you didn't.

QED

Off on a tangent - Apple just posted their Quarterly Revenues in the form of their quarterly conference call, and subsequent Q&A session:

The Company posted revenue of $7.46 billion and net quarterly profit of $1.07 billion, or $1.19 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $5.41 billion and net quarterly profit of $818 million, or $.92 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 34.8 percent, down from 36.9 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 42 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

Apple shipped 2,496,000 Macintosh computers during the quarter, representing 41 percent unit growth and 43 percent revenue growth over the year-ago quarter. The Company sold 11,011,000 iPods during the quarter, representing 12 percent unit growth and seven percent revenue growth over the year-ago quarter. Quarterly iPhone units sold were 717,000 compared to 270,000 in the year-ago-quarter.

For those so inclined, here's a commentary play-by-play of the conference call:

In my opinion, the most interesting and exciting hint at something in the future, happened at 2:13PT timecode, under 'forecast for next quarter' - "significant product transition that can't be discussed today"

Not *technically* a product transition - just going from MBP to MBP Plus (or whatever it'll be called), is not really a product *transition*.

He seems to allude more at something that involves having an existing product get dropped, and a new product introduced to replace it - kinda like they did with iPod Mini, to iPod Nano (anyone ever considered a 'special edition' of the iPod Nano, called the 'iPod Nana'

What *might* be happening, and it would be related to what you suggest, is Apple dramatically consolidating their MacBook line -- dropping the regular Black/White MacBooks, and introducing a new line of MacBooks to replace them and consolidate the entire line into three models:

- MacBook (essentially, the MacBook Air with a few more ports, and somewhat fatter, to replace the MacBook line), in the $1,000 range
- redesigned MacBook Pro models in 15" and 17". Thinner and faster, in the $2,000 and $3,000 range
- redesigned MacBook Air with internal SATA drives (SSD and regular drive), same price, with two USB ports.

That's if you want to think MacBook line (which is coming, we all know that).

Personally, I think they may also introduce something totally new, before the holiday season. I would normally not think they would already release a new iPhone model, aimed at the sub-$200 market (i.e. $100-$150), but Apple has gotten very aggressive lately, so I would not discard that notion.

The only question that I would have there, would simply be, how do you make an iPhone 'simpler' and cheaper, and still retain the ability of the iPhone Wireless Platform to drive App Store sales... ?

Has the time come for a separate Apple forum - along the lines of Pattaya and Z forums (fora?) ? Yesterday, the last 25 excluding Tech left about 6 postings at one point.

In Norway you could buy a iPhone 3G with a contract with Netcom, then abort the contract right away (according to Norwegian law, confirmed by Netcom).

You would pay for 1 month, but you get a unlocked phone.

But, this is only practical for Norwegians...
How much is it? Including the 1 month contract?

Don't worry, it won't happen anymore. All the marked threads will now show up on a alternate Last 25 list. It's better this way.
