To begin with I have to say I feel bad about Steve Jobs. A brilliant and visionary man who looks like he will pass in the prime of his life.
As for Apple as an investment I am not quite as confident as DD. I think it sound through the next couple of years but now we have to see how the new CEO handles things. I have no doubt that they have a five year or longer plan but I also have no doubt that Mr. Jobs modified his plans going forward to deal with market changes. The real test will be how the new CEO handles market dynamics vs. the plan and how well they develop their new strategic direction. Having said this, I am a dyed in the wool apple guy and have been since forever, but when it comes to investing I always keep my mind as open as possible.

I figure 2-3 years after which iPad/iPhone will be fighting for sales in an ever shrinking market.
Now it was hinted that there are some revolutionary products in the APPL pipeline but then again with out the 'Pitchman' it may be harder for these products to have the success of the current crop of APPL products...

The Amazon Pad will be an enhanced Kindle with more memory.
Even now Kindle has a web browser that even supports flash but it clogs up on memory intensive pages like the old smartphones used to do before the added more memory.
The new Kindle type pad will probably run flash apps and have an 8 inch color screen.
In short it will not be an iPad or even close to it, but it will have the same effect on the book reader market that the iPhone had on the smartphone market...

The truth is that Apple cannot keep up with demand.....As much as there are other god products out there, people WANT Apple..... Apple is probably one of the most successfull stories over the past 20 years... form the verge of BK to one of the largest companies in the world.
Love 'em or hate 'em, give them credit..... You watch, demand will continue to outstrip Apple's ability to provide product......

There, I fixed that for you.
So far, every single competitor that was boasting that it could run Flash, inevitably turned in crappy performance and crashes because of it.

Hmm... I was thinking of the early smart phones like the N95 which needed more core memory to handle web pages.
Even now major internet sites have smart phone optimized webpages which basically suck and are hard to navigate.... hence the need for a tablet or a netbook (I use Asus)...

yeah, there's plenty of sites who's 'optimized' versions suck if you're not on an iPad or iPhone.
