apparantly amazon are launching a serious contender next for the ipad

Perhaps this needs to be moved to the Humor Section.

was this the same guy who once said he didn't like the iPhone because he has fat fingers and couldn't operate the virtual keyboard, preferring the even smaller sized physical keys of a BB?

Yep, same guy.

I found out there is certainly a market for Android devices - the same guys who either absolutely hate Apple with a passion, or the ones who can't get an iPhone (for carrier based reasons).

I do love the hater group the most, for the reasons you just gave.

Oh, and then there's also the BBerry aficionados. Those are kinda funny too.

So, the carrier based group is now gone, as all carriers carry iPhones.... and the BBerry users.... are there still any such?

Basically all that's left in the Android demographic now are the Apple Haters, and those they lie to, I mean, those they advise...

Don't forget the price concious group that took Android to the height of the most used OS. Apple is only first in terms of money, not in terms of the most widely used OS.

I would question that, seeing as how ALL usage metrics favor iOS over Android.

... unless you are saying that Android users do not use web browsers, and do not use hot-spots, or really any mobile traffic.

http://articles.businessinsider.com/2012-03-13/tech/31158768_1_ios-android-ipad

In most of these cases, iOS leads by 60% for mobile usage, or even 80% for hot-spot usage.

Go even further, compare most used cameraPhones on Flikr (all iPhones), or most usage on wikimedia (10% iOS, 5% Android).

iPad represents 91% of web traffic of tablet devices, according to the most recent numbers.

Now, granted, *shipping* claims are overwhelmingly Android, but equipment sitting on shelves and being returned to the manufacturer after 5 months doesn't really count as "usage" numbers.

Additionally, there are tons of no-name Android phones that effectively replace dumbPhones or featurePhones in the "zero money" category - being used mainly to make phone calls and send SMS messages - again, hardly usage numbers.

Ditto, look at usage numbers in Thailand -- travel for a bit on the Skytrain or the MRT, and you will see an overwhelming number of people using iPhones and iPads -- to the point where seeing the occasional Blackberry or Samsung Note seems like an aberration.

iOS devices seriously appear to be the overwhelming devices in use. Including at MBK or Panthip, where Samsung might be spending $$$ on signage, but the shops underneath those signs are all selling iPhones and iPads.
