We never did hear from kimchisniffer as to whether he stayed here or not.

I intend to stay at the Asoke for the major part of my stay in September. But I too am concerned whether it is GF.

So I will either book the unrestricted 3315 rate so I can go elsewhere if there is a problem, or book the prepaid 2635 rate and register the TG if need be. (Registering the TG will not be too much of a problem since I have already decided to spend a lot of time with a previous acquaintance and any other wandering would be mostly at MPs.)

I will be staying at the Westin for the first 5 nights (3 nights free on Starwood points) so perhaps I can wait until I arrive to confirm the policy with the staff at the Asoke front desk.

But I just noticed that the 2635 rate is now unavailable for the next 2 weeks. If this pattern continues, I will have to decide within the next week or so as to which rate to book for the remaining 18 days of my stay.

I didn't expect to see the unavailability of the rate, since only a week ago there was a 2300 rate for a week out before being replaced by a 2635 rate. Occupancy must be increasing.

Left the Westin this morning... concierge asked if I wanted a taxi? No, I am only going 400 meters up the street to Sofitel Residence. I will walk. They wouldn't hear of that and had one of their staff walk my luggage over. Sofitel staff says it happens all the time with Westin and Sheraton. They seem to be getting a lot of longer term guests from both hotels.

At checkin, I mentioned that I had a girl friend who would be visiting over night, and would there be a problem. The desk clerk said no problem; but she must leave her ID at the desk. Forgot to ask if there was a joiner fee, but I assume she would have told me. Only problem is my TG has gone missing - and if/until she reappears I will likely just visit the soapies on Ratchada.

1 Bedroom apartment seems huge; even bigger than the President Solitaire Platinum suite. Or maybe just seems that way because of the layout. The bedroom really is a separate room unlike the Solitaire.

Bedroom has king bed, widescreen TV (not flat), desk where staff installed a DSL modem for me. I took the 1000 baht per week option for Internet access. 2 closets, one with safe.

Bath off the bedroom has both tub and shower. No jacuzzi though.

The living area is open with kitchen, dining area, and living area.

Living area has couch, chair, tables, another wide screen TV, and DVD player/amplifier and speakers. And patio doors that open to a small balcony.

Dining table in area just outside of kitchen.

Kitchen has real refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and toaster.

There is a door off the kitchen that opens to a laundry room with a washing machine. Yes! No more doing the wash in the bathtub.

There is also a second bathroom (basin and toilet) just inside the front door.

Everything seemed fine, until I opened the letter left for me. Turns out the French restaurant on the premises is outsourced! Which means no Accor card discount! Guess I won't be eating French.

For those who have stayed at the President Solitaire, this place is much newer looking. No creaks or squeaky bed like I had in the Platinum suite. Platform bed mattress might be a bit hard for some, but I prefer it that way. Tile flooring in living area and bathroom. Wood (parquet) flooring in bedroom.

sai tai, your hotel reports are indispensable. This sounds like a good value but for longer term, the price doesn't work out favorably when compared to the President Solitaire's monthly rate and amenities.

The washing machine is a nice to have. Although I wouldn't go for drying my clothes out on the balcony when I can just drop my clothes off at the bottom of some apartment/condo to have it cleaned and ironed for a few hundred baht.

Keep us posted on whether it's girl friendly (free of charge)...

When the desk girl took me up the elevator, I asked about monthly rates. She said they have them. I will stop at the front desk and get the details later.

Seems the TG had a wisdom tooth pulled (second thought it must be a molar - 20 yo should not have wisdom teeth), hence the disappearing act for a few days.

While the desk girl at check-in said that I would need to register the girl to be in compliance with regulations, the night guard tonight just waved me on by when I began to ask about registering her. "No problem."

I think I will like staying here.

Location is about 400 meters up Soi 19 from Suk. At what would be the northeast corner of Soi 19 and the Soi 19-20 cross street.

Asoke BTS station entrance is at Suk Soi 19. 5 minute walk.

It's about 10 minute walk to Soi Cowboy (800 meters or so).

Soi 21 (Asoke).... perhaps? Soi 20 is all the way at the other end....

I thought it was strange that my map has it labeled Soi 19-20 after it crosses 19.

Anyway it is the side street that starts at Soi 15 and crosses 19, 21, 23, eventually ending up close to Glow.

Probably a mistake in the map and should have been marked as Soi 19-21; like it is labeled Soi 21-23 in the next block.

Monthly rates:

Deluxe Suite - 1 Bedroom 71-80 sqm. 85,000
Executive Suite - 1 Bedroom 96 sqm. 95,000

Desk girl said discounts could be obtained by contacting sales office. Probably only 1 or 2K. I would probably try to get internet access for free - 3k a month.

This is inclusive price.

Comparing President Solitaire internet price for similar sized Platinum Suite: After including taxes, etc.: 82,390. So not so different in price. Of course, Solitaire has smaller suites at less.

So far, I much prefer the Sofitel. The Solitaire was showing its age. And there was always some party going on in the next room. Just too busy a place. I like the quieter environment here. (And of course, it's proximity to Soi Cowboy.)
