Quote: from vox on 11:21 pm on Mar. 4, 2013 Now it all comes out and becomes clear. If the OP was sitting in a busy bar and not purchasing anything, they had every right to boot him out. This can be expected the world over, and is NOT "rude staff behavior".

Quote: from bkkz on 12:06 am on Mar. 5, 2013 That's the problem I have with soft drinks, ever since I stopped drinking alcohol. I just drink it too quickly. These days, I order Tonic water, it lasts a little longer for me.
Tonic water is a good suggestion and I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Yes, or soda water. Anything you resent. Got a funny story when a fellow member and myself passed a bar in Patpong offering 55 baht draft beer. We got in and saw the Coke we usually drank was 110 baht. As we had many drinks already in other bars, we weren't really thirsty and went for the cheap offer. As none of us likes beer, our drinks were still untouched after 30 minutes and the waitress asked us why we didn't drink the beers yet. We answered that we didn't like beer. She left puzzled.

DoctahLove, your story led to a new product idea, the "The Boda Stomach", a stomach-shaped bag worn around the neck or shoulder into which one occasionally dumps smalll quantities of the drinks they don't want to consume with their stomachs.

Yep. I remember doing that with the good doctor. Very funny. I've been to Baccara many times upstairs, drinking only one drink (usually diet coke), never ordering another one, and never being bothered by the staff. The key, as many have said, is to not drink all of it. The staff might lift the can and try and empty it into the glass, but other than that they always left me alone. Might have been some other dynamic going on, or maybe things have changed.

This thought occurred to me as well. It is entirely possible that the rudeness I experienced was specific to the waitress, or perhaps the specific floor manager, and not indicative of what I would experience on a subsequent visit. Nonetheless, staff maintaining courtesy with courteous customers strikes me as good business policy unless the customer is being offensive.

The gal could have been out of sorts for any number of reasons. I few nights ago in Bangkok Beat a punter chose to sit at the elevated level opposite the band just at the gap where you enter. He was not causing any obstruction but the serving wench would not have it wanted him to move and would not leave him alone. The argument was escalating and she got the bouncers involved at which point the guy (sensibly) just said Mai Pen Rai paid and left. Her attitude was bang out of order and I could see the punter was really pissed off. She continued ranting about the incident to anyone that would listen for quite a while after he had left.

Many Thai seem to derive a lot of pleasure to impose very strict nonsense rules on farangs. And this is general, not only in the P4P industry. An example : Go to Emerald Buddha temple, you will notice that the farang have to comply to a lot of rules (no open shoe, no short...) and the Thai can go in with shorts and flip flop no ploplem...

That's interesting. It is very good the "violator" didn't let the matter escalate too far. I have heard stories of Thais going "pack animal" on people.
