Agreed its pricey ... especially after the 6-9pm happy hour in most bars, I took to pals to MONET last week, had a couple of drinks each and I think 2 ladies drinks, and it was 2000 baht, but yes, some more classy girls, one I was chatting to had been a private secretary for a boss in Thai/Italian when constuction was booming - but then found herself out of a job, the bar fines there were 1300 midweek, 1500 weekends, and am sure most girls would stay the night, allowing you meet the fee ... just what they would ask for not sure, guess 2-3000bt, of course hint that you are very keen, MAY buy her some gold etc soon, and that should be enough to encourage her

I usually do the rounds of soi 33 when in Bangkok for a change of pace.
I think the best method is to buy the girl you fancy a few drinks and then before you leave get her phone number.
You can then arrange a meeting outside the soi 33 scene and take it from there.
I wouldn't dream of paying their barfines.

I dont believe everything a TG tells me but two weeks ago i met one in Singapores Top 10 disco who told me she was a bartender in Monet. Of course she was very passionate and we spent the evening playing tonsil hockey followed by the most comprehensive spell of cunnilingus that I have ever visited upon a young lady. She tasted like creme brulee. Or was it lychee? Can't quite decide.
Anyway, she calls me last week in tears. Apparently she was travelling to malaysia for a visa run and on her way back in a singapore immigration officer accused her of having a fake passport and flung her in the can for 2 days before the embassy bailed her out, She was so shaken by the ordeal that she didnt venture out of her house till it was time for her to bugger off back to Bangkok. So if this is really a true story and you do come across her in Monet (shes deliciously tanned and looks late 20's), do be nice to her, she could use it.

The OFFICE BAR gets my vote. The attractive young lasses make one very comfortable and the price of beer is indeed right. Good music most nights to boot.
Seems that not many lasses stay around THE OFFICE that long before a smart young chap sweeps them off their feet.
One lovely OFFICE lass I knew is now in the Phuket yacht charter business and another on a New Zealand sheep station.
Altogether a solid watering hole in the rather chi chi Soi 33 neighbourhood.

Whilst it is more expensive, I like Soi 33 because it is not so loud and it was not on the JI hitlist when they captured those terrorists.
As for the ladies, I think it is a lot like the classy MPs where if you get to know the Mammasan, and let her know what you want, she will usually find it for you.

dont think soi 33 would be a priority for a newbie. there is just so much to see and i dont think that many newbies come this way, though some do. there is so much on the lower soi's for a newbie that they should have their hands full (a good description would be "overwhelming").

Update: the closure was temporary... still not much going on, but the place is open under the same Vietnamese ownership.

Thanks DeepFile for your reco's. I like Monet and have been to a few others but your list offers me some new places to explore. The atmosphere of the area is a nice change of pace from the Nana scene but I'm not on a company expense acct.
