The drink prices are no worse than many other (evening) venues... just stay away from barfining them and don't buy too many lady drinks. Damage control, I like to call it; a sound strategy at any of the entertainment spots. I'm not a real "regular" on 33 either, but I like the change of pace from the deafening go-go scene... you can actually carry on a conversation.

I think you just found out how it works.
As most of the Soi 33 are paid a very low salary (like THB 100 a day) most of their income comes from their drink sales and bar fines. So it's very important for them to keep on drinking, even if they don't like brandy or other liquor.
Most of the girls are willing to choose for liquor as it pays them approx THB 20 more even if they prefer to drink coke 'straight'.
Also the amount of cheating (putting a very very small amount of liquor in a pool of soda/coke) is rampant on Soi 33.
Tip: if girls drink like to drink liquor demand the following:
Let them take two glasses:
1 - With the liquor
2 - with the mixer
You check if the amount of liquor given is sufficient to justify parting with THB 150, and if so, then can pour the mixer into the liquor.
