After being closed since Feb for "rennovation" Degas has reopened (same owner with an expat partner named Patrick). Not much has changed unfortunately... although the standard of girls is higher (at least while they try to kickstart the place). The bar (which is badly designed and impossibe to sit at comfortably) is the same, and the "old bog" smell is still there, though perhaps not as strong. According to the ladies there will be a grand opening party on the 22nd of Dec with free food.
A few doors down Anand has finally come to his senses and closed Papa's, which never gained any traction after being remodelled late last year. Why the guy would dump money into Degas instead of reopening Papa's (which didn't need upgrading) is another of those things that appears to defy logic. He has also closed Santana... which has been almost as dead as Papa's this past year. Employees from both venues have been relocated to his flagship bar Napoleon across the street.
Due to shareholding changes the former Venus bar has been renamed Hang Out... but nothing has changed except the name.
The venerable Blue BBQ has changed ownership yet again, and is now Harry's Bar & Grill... unfortunately there is no reason to walk to the end of Soi Wall Street for a visit because there is absolutely nothing of interest there.

I recently stayed at LL for 3 nights, but had TG in tow. A number of ladies in the A/C sports bar, lady drink 177++, not sure about BF.
Christies had happy hour price of 100 per beer, not sure if the happy is to make the Boss happy or the punter.
I feel Bangkok is getting pricier,also a lot of Grace residents are spreading their wings, especially in Bamboo bar.
The heat also spoils the walking around.

These prices are standard for Soi 33.
If you can't afford it or want to pay it, go to Nana, Cowboy or Pattaya.
If you have a need to spend even more go to clubs like Forte, Champagne Room and the likes.
LD around 300+ baht and barfines 3,500+ baht.

THe reason that barfines are 1500 baht are higher in SC or Nana is:
- The girls get usually 600 baht out of it, 900 baht goes to the owner
- Girls working in Soi 33 consider themselves of higher 'quality' than those on SC or Nana
- The average customers on Soi are middle or top management expat workers. They feel they get higher quality by paying more...
A matter of psychology...
Actually one of the barowners on Soi 33 (LL) told me that when girls apply at his bar, they inquire about the height of the barfine customers have to pay. They just don't like cheap charlies.
