Then I won't feel uncomfortable about paying either of these businesses upfront.
It sounds like between you and many others, that there have been no problems with booking through this type of agency.
And thank for the heads up about late arrivals. Majestic was very accomodating in this respect as well, and the manager exchanged a number of e-mails with me until we got it ironed out.

Sounds like Manhattan is a much bigger place than Majestic.... No getting past the front desk at Majestic without everyone seeing your business! 
Is it customary or expected at Manhattan to drop of your girl's ID at the front desk?

Sure.
Every room I have had there has had a view.
But whether or not it is a great view is very much the question.
The hotel is square on to Sukhumvit road. So dependant on which side of the hotel you are on, you are either looking up or down Sukhumvit road.

Wow, other than the Amari-which I deplored, the hotels I've stayed in Raumchitt, Nana and Dynasty have not had windows, with a view anyway.............hmmmmmmmmm, food for thought for the next trip.....October if not before. Thanks for the info.

At Nana, get the rooms on 9th or 10th floors. They have great views. If you get even numbers, they look south, while the odd numbers look north toward the skytrain and NEP.

I'm really looking forward to the larger rooms of Manhattan...
Majestic was clean and well serviced, but the rooms were quite small. And that front foyer where everyone is having their meals is a little tight to pass through with your girl/s on your arm.
I'm hoping with a little more room at the Manhattan humble can comfortably set up his tripod and new minidvcam for a bit of video fun.

Booked a junior suite at this hotel for 2.500 baht incl. VAT and breakfast. Is this a good deal or too high?
Stayed at the Majestic last time but the rooms are way to small. Very friendly reseption and also very guestfriendly. Hope the Manhattan is the same.

Vikingblood, Just came back from my BKK vacation. I stayed at Manhaten and I have booked my room at http://www.resorthotel.net/thailand/hotels/bangkok/manhattan.htm I found they had the best price. Things I liked: big room , safe in the room, good water presure from the shower and girl friendly (booked a double).
One small incident, the power generator blew up last week, round 9 o'clock in the morning and it took a few hours to repair.
