I've been dealing with khun Jatinder at Siam Emporium Tailors (used to be called Alla Moda Tailors) at 207 Siam Center for about 6 trips in 7 years now. He is patient, knowledgeable, and not of the hard-sell school. He will take his time showing you fabrics and styles, and will explain each and every option. His work and service have been excellent on the total of about 20 shirts and pants choosing highest quality cotton I've had made by him - LS for 1400B, SS for 1300B, and pants at 1800B at last purchase. He has less expensive cotton, but his best has lasted through many machine washings, resists wrinkling more, and still looks new years later. I'm not saying that his prices are the lowest, as I haven't used anyone but him for work, but I always know that what I am getting is what I had picked out, with no unexpected surprises. I haven't needed suits from him, so I can't comment on that work, but he has always made every accommodation to fix even the smallest problems and has been rock solid reliable to deal with.

@Latenight
I am sorry I cannot give you another advice than "Narin Couture" in the high-end tailor domain in BKK.
There may be other options in expensive shopping malls like the Grayson Plaza (Chid lom area).

My budget stops at the Vitale Barberis level so that I was on my last trip satisfied with the quality & value provided by Nai Chan (even if you have to go another shop to get the tailor work).

Cheers,
Latrell

Actually went to check Nai Chan main show room in Suk 24, and they do offer high end fabrics. They did actually quote me 250 000TBH for the fabric necessary for a suit in their best Scabal. Quite a bit more than what I was looking for.

A couple of issues :

They use only the most classic material, and have very limited choice in patterns/design, nothing like the more fancy fabrics I'm atracted to (no coloured stripes for instance, much less pink or purple ones) from which tailors back home will have several wads (as they can order it after the customer orders the suits, to the contrary to Nai Chan who needs to stock)

Than comes the tailoring, they were going to send me to some tailor in Suk 22, but it seems their touch is as classic as Nan Chai's fabric, hence I doubt I would end up with a suit I like much.

Than there is the price, as I'm far from convinced european imported fabrics are cheaper here than in Europe.

As of Narin, I didn't make it to soi 8, just wished they would select a more pleasant location.

Thanks for the advice though, I will prolly end up ordering a few shirts anyway, as I like them as white as it gets, and see how they come out

yesterday a local tailor (Mickael Ohnona http://www.ohnona.com) came to our parisian office to deliver a suit I had done from him, and the price he asked for Scabal s150 diamond fabric is 50% CHEAPER than Nai Chan... I'm as suspicious as ever about good deals in BKK tailors...

250.000 THB for the cloth of a suit is just silly...

Yopu can have a suit tailored in HK with Zegna fabric in an OFFICIAL Zegna store and even get the wrikle free teflon stuff at about 100.000.-THB.

A Vitale Barberis cloth suit will cost you less than 1000 CHF custom tailored...

nah... 250 000 baht for Super150 Diamond chip from Scabal or abt 7600USD, double what I would pay for that in Paris for the fabric. How much cheaper and where can you get "that level of quality" ?

Going to HKG again next week and keep on hearing or reading good reports on the tailors there but afraid I still won't be able to find the time to get any cloth done in this very busy city.

Had some cotton button down dress shirts made at Rajawongse recently. They were 1000 baht each. I am not an expert on tailoring by any stretch, but they seemed pretty good. Two things, I noticed- the stitching is less than machine perfect- ok by me and second, I requested a quite loose fit and brought in a brooks brothers shirt as a model, shirts are a bit tighter than requested- perhaps a bit cheap with the material (or just didn't quite get it right). Had someone much more knowledgeable than me take a look and they thought them decent value for the cost. Will see how they hold up to washing/ironing. Will probably be back for suits, but will give Rajah's a chance as well (with the idea of picking a long-term winner).

For those looking for a higher end spot, a few well-heeled expats I know frequent Perry Tailor at sala daeng.

Patronizing George's, Sukhumvit 11 near Manhattan for a while. Good material, but a lot of bargaining is needed...

Latenight... not saying it is (or isn't Scabal) just a friendly reminder for those newcomers here....

As my tailor told me long ago.... Never believe the branding / labeling says on the edge weave of the fabric. The wholesalers can get anything they want embroidered on the side and the chances of it being a real designer textile are slim to none.

That does not mean it is bad material, just don't let that Boss, Zegna, etc. label trick you out of more money.
