thanks for the ideas,

I sweat but thats OK if I am working outside or walking around in 100F heat, its just a normal body function,
The problem is when I am in LOS, out at night and "trying" to look cool and not sweat/smell bad if I go to a club or disco.
We all know thats important but hard to do when its still 80F + at night,

As far as the undershirts do you try and buy them so they are close to your body and wick the sweat off more ? Here I buy T-shirts to wear as outerwear and wear them loose so they breath, but I can see thats not going to work or even look good if you are going to wear a dress shirt over them,

Sorry for the stupid questions, but I never have to wear dress shirts for work and so I do not know have any or know how to buy them as far as sizes or material goes.

So thanks for the advise

BK

... loose or tight, the tee-shirt will rub against your skin anyway... I favor a loose tee-shirt with a deep V-neck so there is a bit more air circulation.

what's the typical turnaround time for custom shirts at some of the tailors listed in this thread?

Might vary a little if there is a 'Buddha Day' involved...

In your situation 2 days on shirts. A fitting on the next day. If it is right then done, but if it needs fitting, then the extra day. They seem to make it bigger the first time, then adjust to properly fit. After that, you can go to that same tailor, tell him your number from your last order, and the fit on a new shirt will be exact as last time.
The main thing with shirts is it doesn't matter where you get them made. Suits yes you have to use good tailors, but with shirts, everyone makes shirts well. The thing that does matter is how many you get made from a particular tailor, with 3 being the price cut point. Any less, and you will pay considerably more per shirt, $35-$40 instead of $15-$20 per shirt.

When I was working, I looked at the material that each tailor had on offer, mainly the patterns on the material, when deciding on where to buy. On one trip I bought 16 shirts from 5 different tailors. On the next trip I bought 18 shirts from 4 different tailors, including 3 I'd used before, so 7 tailors in all, and all along Sukhumvit.

The main thing to watch for on shirts, and this you wouldn't even think about, is the buttons. How cheap they are, and how well they are sewn on. Out of all the shirts I've bought over the years, and all for work to start with, the only problem I've had with any of them is the buttons. Some have used cheap buttons on expensive material, but mostly it is just a skimping on how well they are sewn on, not enough thread. I've never had a shirt fail in any other way, and some of my shirts are over 7 years old, with heavy wear.

The cost has varied depending on the material, and the number of shirts bought from each tailor, but out of 34 dress work shirts, they came out averaging $17US a shirt, from silk to polyester blend. A bigger man might pay at most an extra $2 a shirt.

The main thing when looking is to find patterns you like, and get a next day fitting. Don't buy from anyone without a fitting. You can simply get a fitting on just one of the shirts from the same tailor, and all the rest will be the same, but do get a fitting, and the next day again make sure they fit. Tailors understand this, and expect it. If you want, try them all on, but at least do it with one.

And don't turn down the free drink offer while you wait.

Got my threads done at Robinson's Tailors along Suk 22. Bloke located midway between I-Style Hotel and Titanium (which had some seriously good looking chicks there when I popped in). On the left if you're facing towards the Suk.

Advertised price was US$199 for 2 suits, 2 shirts and 2 trousers. Got them 2 days after my first fitting. Material feels great and cool (I work in Singapore where the air is like warm cotton wool).

Bloke was professional and seemed to know his stuff. At that price I thought it was a steal.

I am planning on having a nice 3 piece suit made on my trip in a couple of weeks.

The last suit I had made was from Armani Tailor's near the nana bts stairs, in like 2008. It was about $200 and pretty good quality, but not great.

However, I want to drop like $5 to 600 this time and get one that really is sharp. I was thinking for 15 to 18,000 baht (this 30 baht to the dollar shit sucks!) that I could get a few shirts thrown in as well (w/ my initials on the cuff!)

Do any dudes here have a recommendation for a "top notch" tailor on/near sukhumvit????

Any tips are appreciated!

Cheers,

atl

TajMahol tailors on soi 4 on the left just past NANA. The father has been in business for over 40 years, and is one of the senior tailors in Bangkok of the Indian tailors. He has top quality fabrics, and a long repeat business list from all over the world. He will match any quality you want, and even does a fantastic Cashmere overcoat to go with your suit.

Make sure you know what fabric you want, and how you want it made, half lined legs on the pants, and things like that. If you know what you want, he will make it, but you have to know what you want. This is pretty much true with any tailor, the big difference though is in the fabrics they have available. They all don't have the same fabrics imported. He is one of the seniors so he gets what he wants.

It's a little trivia that I just happened to discover about him when I had to wait a little while for some pants. He was making my clothes 40 years ago outside the US Air Base at Ubon during the Vietnam war...lolol.

I found out something else since I moved here too. Most of the actual tailors (the ones that make the clothes), are all on the next 3 blocks around the corner from where I live, in the real sweatshops. There are about 60 shops with anywhere from 8-20 tailors operating in each shop.
