I know what you mean, but I am dead serious. Its actually just over a mile and hald each way and takes her 25 to 30 minutes each way.
I think she is just to cheap to pay the buck fifty for the metro LOL!

Thrifty? She sure hates what she sees as "waste".
The wife is upset with herself this morning because she left the outside light on last night (60 watt globe!) for about 5 hours. Cost? A couple of cents...less than one baht.
As I write this she will be walking to the bus stop no doubt still trying to work out how she can qualify for a student concession even though she is only a part-time student (learning English) - cost saving? The $2 ticket will then cost 80 cents.
Yeah, she walks - but she don't like it.
How do I know all this will be on her mind? Because I had to look it up for her on the internet last night after one of the other "students" on the bus got the cheaper ticket last week. Enjoy.

I awoke this morning with my wifes face 3 inches from mine with a serious look...she says.."I want to ask you one question" now for her to begin a sentence addressed at me and not use the word "tilac" is a bad indication.
my first thought is...shit I left bkktonight up on the computer when I went to bed last night...and she as read all my sordid stories of trips back to BKK when she was in Phuket (she would know my avatar/handle)....or either I left my email up and got an email from an old GF or something...
but to my joy it wasnt something that serious...she produces a blue plastic solo cup from behind her back and says "why you use this cup for spit" I ocassionally partake in a nice "dip" when I am having a few beers (hey I am a southerner LOL!)
she continues...why you not use beer bottle?..I angy..this good cup.
I frekin paid a $1 for like 20 of them and she had dumped my vile spit mixed with copenhagen out and hand cleaned the 5cent cup and said "dont do again...this good cup"
I just laughed and thought to myself "bless her heart "
anyway...I thought it was worthy of dusting off this old thread....

LMOA, that's a great anecdote! And so very TG.
Speaking of thrifty, was talking with my TGF last night by video phone, she wanted to show off her new haircut. She looked great. Then the conversation turned to what she was going to do before going to work:
TGF: "I do lyUN [ironing] but I tie-ED [tired] mahk mahk!"
Balls: "Well, why don't you just iron one or two shirts for your uniform and do the rest tomorrow when you feel better?"
TGF: "mai dai, mai dai!"
Balls: "Why?"
TGF: "Waste palang [power]. lyUN have to get hot, then get cold, then tomorrow hot again, then cold! Wasting money!"
Having grown up in poverty, she knows that value of a single baht. Kinda makes me realize how I fritter away baht and never think about it.

This applies to people the world over. I think growing up poor then learning how to waste money when you have it is a bad thing.
On a different subject, I entertained three TGs at a Dodgers game last Wednesday. A beautiful afternoon game with the Dodgers losing by 11 runs. : ( Well anyway, two were of Thai descent working in LA for years (so I guess they are A-TGs - Amerekanized Thai Girls) and the third one was a TG that has been in only for Amereka about 2 months. The two A-TGs had lost some of their, how shall I put it, "Thai-ness" while the newbie to Amereka was still covering her mouth when she giggled. I wonder how long before she becomes a "BANANA"?

I can fully understand your wife's comments to you Atl after I lived near y'all in Bkk. Guys: she's one of the good ones!
Which brings me to a personal question... and I'm looking for advice from any of you that can supply some information for me...
I'm thinking of marrying my gf from the Philippines. One of the things I worry about is if she will be happy enough here in the USA. For example, she's one of those that is SO good with pesos and she doesn't have many of them. I love her attitude about money... and ColoGuy, Ballsburstin, Atl, I agree with all of you about this money thing and how Thai (and Filipina) girls might change in their appreciation of a single baht.
Case in point:
My son-in-law's sister married a guy from Venezuela a couple of years ago. I had dinner with her last week. When I asked her about her married life, her first response was, "I wish he wouldn't have become so Americanized. Now he wants to spend so much time buying shit... Home Depot, etc. We were lots happier when he was making a few dollars under the table at the hotel where he first worked."
Now I know this isn't the only issue to think of here about marrying outside your own culture. My Filipina gf is going to find out very fast that I am not one of the rich ones here. Still, relatively speaking, I do have food to eat every night.
MAN! I'd love the thoughts of any of you with experience on this to comment on this... and any of the other issues I might encounter.
