The problem with dentist's in Thailand is lack of painkillers. Not during the treatment they have plenty of Novacaine, but forget any after treatmenty stuff like Vicoden or such. Iboprofen and Tylenol is all you get here.

Just plan on doing some heavy drinking the next couple of days after any major tooth work.

Not with DC-One. A root canal is as you know a lot of "fun" on the pain side - but they really had the best pills for comfort and handed over, with me not even asking for it. It is a clinic with highest western influenced standard and I have to say - their equpiment is more up-to-date than my Scandinavian doctor have - and we are supposedly on the leading edge in that part of the world. So I have sent numerous friends there on recomendation and so far noone has kicked my butt for it!

Hmmmm... I cant recall the name of it right now - but it was most effective, without making the head spin or anything. I showed it to my local dr at home, because I had to do a check-up, and he agreed and said it was the proper medication to give. Note: I was in s....t-pain before the root canal was initially fixed. Really could not even eat! When drilling they used a very effective injection of course. Did not feel anything at all. When that started to wear off - I took 1 or 2 of the painkiller pill they gave - and I had no prob whatsoever! Then did not use again - because I try to limit all medications as much as ever possible.

There are many good dentists here. Like Jojje, DC-One is, IMHO, a top provider with excellent facilities and staff. They are on the high side regarding price compared to most hi-so dental places.

We Care Dental over on Paholyothin Soi 5 has some of the best dentists as well with many being professors here as well.

BMC Dental is also very good

Personally I did not like The Dental Hospital however many swear by it.

Depending on the dentist and procedure, they will provide Ultraset or Tramadol for pain. This is generally the strongest you can get without Doctor intervention

These work for mild-moderate discomfort. I had major dental surgery a couple months ago and they gave me this and it was pointless.. a few tylenol would have been the same. Fortunately I am well stocked with Vicodin so this was easily dealt with.

Yeah even doctors cannot prescribe Vicodin as it is on the banned list for Thailand. Tramadol can be bought at any pharmacy. Still a 3rd world country.

Yeah... I have never understood this... as I am post-op (twice) back surgery and chronic pain, this was a real problem when I first arrived. Every chance I get to stock up on serious pains meds I take full advantage of.

I was told I can get morphine (but that is just too much) or the Fentanol (sp?) patch but takes time to kick in. A vic and a beer does just the trick.

VBKK: A beer and a Vike's OK, but you should watch the drinking or killing hangovers with Vikes. It'll turn your liver into a loufa. It's not the opiates, it's the synergistic effects with the acetaminophen. Stick with straight codeine. For the same reason, don't do Tylenol for the hangover. Ibuprofen or aspirin. Ibu is bad for your kidneys, but you've got 2 of those ! wj

WJ... Thanks for the advice... I am well aware of the implications having been on the hard for a few months some years ago and know all to well the negatives.

Fortunately have reduced my consumption to a minimum. For the back pain I am primarily using dry needling (deep acupuncture) along with select exercise and, only when it is really bad, do I use a vike. and I never use it for hangovers and the likes... it does not work well for me. That might explain why I have a few hundred still in the fridge
