This is recycled news, which is popping up regularly since H5N1 is a concern. Several groups are actively working on a vaccine targetting M2 and some of them have been obviously substantial efforts on PR... Well, there is big money to be made exploiting the fears of humanity.
That said, if the vaccine works (which is yet far from being known as no human testing has been done yet), it would be an important step.
About the mutation: the M2 gene is quite mutable indeed and although M2 has been stable at least recently nobody knows for sure how the virus will evolve once widespread vaccination would be in place. Evolution and all that...

Your childish rant does not change the fact that flu is fought by using anti-virals and eColi is fought by using antibiotics. As the Duck said, apples and oranges.
It was reported in the Singapore TODAY paper that US researchers have developed a DNA-based vaccine for Avian Flu. The theory is that using DNA the body will create anti-bodies that would be effective even when the Flu virus mutates. It will be interesting to see how that works out.
BTW: oreally, this vaccine will not prevent eColi or any other bacteria based disease...

The influenza situation in Thailand was worrisome, after 470 people fell ill and two died in the first month of 2011, Disease Control Department chief said yesterday.
Manit Theerathantikanon also urged people to see doctor immediately if they had influenza symptoms such as having high fever that won't go away in two days, coughing, having chest pain, and often gasping for breath.
